So heading home from getting more landscape materials all of a sudden my truck died completely. No electrical at all. There was a loud clicking(electrical) under the hood. When I opened the hood there was a electrical smell and smoke. Sadly I didn't have any tools to pull the battery cable as the battery was discharging. I flagged down a motorcyclist who had tools and helped me out

Waiting to be towed to the dealer, right next to my house.

Still waiting for tow truck. But I am thinking the positive battery cable shorted out. Based on the hard current draw and the clicking. It sounded like the starter solenoid engaging to me. I am having towed home instead the dealer. My local dealer can't get it in right now. The dealer they want me to go too requires a permit for the tow truck to enter the city. So far too much hassle. So going to take home and take a look myself.

Sorry to hear your Ranger died Richard but it should at least be covered under warranty. Hopefully it's nothing major and you're back on the road soon.

Well probaby at least 2 to 3 weeks to get in the dealer. I am going to look at it tommorrow. See if anything obvious. Huge current draw from the battery. Going to test battery also, maybe a shorted battery.

I could see that wait for some trim work or something trivial , but that's a trauma , and should be taken right in and at least "looked at" to see wtf is going on... battery is a good place to start if your on your own here , maybe , hopefully, that's all it is...
