It is what it is I suppose. Inevitably, money and time are going to get 'wasted' while learning something new.

But God damn man, we gotta get these things back together and ride them! Cmon!
yup learning is part of life including failures...

dude tell me about it! i started putting mine back together and snapped a bolt on the clutch spring area plus i cant get the clutch to engage at all.. so gotta take it apart again...

Aw damn that's rough.

Once this is painted and back together I gotta figure out how to remove the previous owners rounded off drain bolt so I can change the oil lol AND see how extended my timing chain tensioner is.

Suzuki had the savage timing chains made from silly putty apparently.. because they stretch extremely fast. There's 21mm of extention in the chain tensioner, and depending on how you ride the plunger can extend between 1 and 2mm per 1000 miles. I picked this up with a hair over 15k on it and even over the obnoxious exhaust you can hear the chain at work lol.. I'm betting the tensioner is plenty extended.

Some savage enthusiast took it upon himself to start modifying the stock tensioners so they have almost double the extention and sells them for right around 200$. The plan is to buy one of those if necessary.

The tensioners on these are auto adjust as well. Its just a spring loaded plunger. Simple and convienient BUUUUT.. if the chain is allowed to stretch enough that plunger will fall out.. leaving no tension on the chain.

lately ive been wanting a motorcycle badly. When i had a muscle car i never wanted a bike. now i miss the rush, sound and feeling. However, my area is near suicide on a bike. less than a block from my driveway is seven lane highway with intersections every few blocks. ive seen two accidents where the person on the motorcycle did not live:confused: thats kept me free of the bug for years. i like most types of motos but feel like im not a good rider and not in a safe area to learn skills. last time I rode a motorcycle more than a buzz or two around the block i was a teenager lol. I saw a can am fs3 in person the other day and it was sweet. it seems a little safer, maybe. but not really. if i got hit by a car on a spyder it will still be deadly. anyone own one or try one? Things are pricey. id have to sell my 4g ranger to get the spyder. are they worth the prices? you can by a new HD nearly any model for the cost of a well optioned can am.

dang thats odd on the adjuster part since mine is the same style i believe and there is next to no issues with em even if the chain gets loose you can re use the tensioner

I appreciate the idea of the dual sport bikes and I'm sure they're great for some people, but I don't really like how mushy and unresponsive they are compared to their off-road only cousins.

I'd love some sort of adventure bike. An Africa twin would be my pick but I'd be more likely to end up with the cheaper klr650 lol.

For now.. the savage is perfect. Quick enough to 60 to get in trouble, I really REALLY like the giant air cooled single cylinder aesthetic for some reason, and it's LIGHT. You can tear through traffic on one of these.

380 lbs from the factory, I've stripped off some weight already and I'm planning on losing more as well.. might be able to get that thing down to 350lbs.

some dual sports are like that but the drz really isnt like that tbh its a great bike since they make the drz400e which is the dirt version s is dual sport and sm well its a super motor lol ive ridden both and the drz is just slightly more heavy but the maintenance is a lot higher vs a mx bike its nuts how much you gotta maintain it within so little hours or miles

i want a africa twin but ill most likely go with the triumph trident 660 instead for something more road worthy lol i dont want to get basically a bigger dirtbike when i have a fun and cheap dirtbike already the klr650 is one id prob never go with its rather gutless and dated still but overall an okay bike

ya the savage is a fun and simple bike it seems i dont think ive ever seen one in person but it sounds like a fun bike

not to bad on weight mine wet is 317 it seems

For a dual sport I think the tenere 700 Yamaha would be awesome. Been thinking about it for a while.

For an old man that's a dual sport. It's also equivalent to the Africa twin being referenced above that's why I brought it up.

300 cc's of fun. K-tech suspension in front, Ohlins in back. Somehow a little Ninja 300 managed to end up costing me, $10K, hahah. Dyno tuned to run on MR12 oxygenated fuel - made wicked HP for a 300. But best of all, I didn't use up a $400 set of tires in one weekend like my old middleweight. Fun size bike, full size fun - Especially when on the track and zig zagging around others on the same bike while fighting for a draft.
