My 92 F250 460ci got 10 mpg doing anything any way any how a/c off or on so I assume it got 10 mpg at idle also. ?

OK, injectors may be "off", while coasting, but when in park, it's using fuel so injectors must be "on" or something is feeding fuel to the engine cause it will run and run and run.
When coasting your in mpg mode...when in park your in gph mode and because of the almost infinite # of variables when in mpg mode (speed, gears, rpm's in each) you cannot compare the two. ie., if veh is doing 50 in 4th gear, rpm's are higher than if doing 50 in 10 gear....so your using more fuel.
But when in park, rpm's are pretty much same from hour to hour, day to day.
You just cannot compare the two.

Was never trying to compare the two. My original post was that parked and idling will decrease you overall mileage while coasting it will increase your mileage. Nothing more.

Or just drive it and not worry about such a small thing. lol I mean I'm as OCD as they come and have never thought about this or even cared. It's all factored into the end equation when you fill up. If you're that worried about a few mpg being wasted it's best to park it and never drive it.

YES!!! That would also have the benefit of extending the intervals between oil changes !!!

I did it once for yucks. It's kinda neat to see how much it varies while driving. From way below 10 while barely accelerating to above 30 when barely on the throttle cruising.

The old 4.0L inline six was like that; same mpg stop n go, 70mh freeway, empty, loaded, 4 season..

Is there any way to change the system so it's only logging gas mileage while driving or in drive etc because it's logging it while idling in park
I get that that will give you a full idea on gas spending but id like to only know what I'm getting while actually driving or sitting stopped in traffic and not include idling in park to stay warm inside or while its warming up the cabin before i leave

If you are using gas while idling in park then that is part of your gas mileage.
Stop idling in park.

No, it's not....and I can prove it !!!
Go out to your truck, start it up, leave it in park for 5 minutes, and then tell me if your odomomator registered any mileage increase !!!
I'll bet it doesn't !!!
