That works too...just avoid #4 (?) plug...that one in back has it's own water reservoir...

I just did this modification 3 days ago.

I agree working space is very limited.

You may also want to do the rear vents behind the back seat. I've had rodents enter there on a camping trip in northern Vancouver Island. I haven't done that myself, but I will be doing it soon.

Here's my after pic for the cabin air intake vents. I used standard aluminum screen from Home Depot and butyl tape, which I had on hand for RV repairs.

I went a similar route. Used this mesh from Amazon:

Cut a sheet into a trapezoid shape and hand bent as best I could to form it to the shape needed. Then used flex tape on the left and right edges. Left the edges with burrs all around so that it might discourage a mouse from trying (thinking maybe anti-mouse barb wire?). The burrs did a good job of giving me multiple diabetes blood stick checks....

The other filter suggestions just seemed too cumbersome. Until a plug n play kit becomes available I think it's a 95% solution. Thank you for the suggestion, @EJH.

Now to remember to a) spray the engine compartment with Grandpa's pee and b) check the filter once per month to see what's up. Or, hopefully, what's not up.

Opened up my truck today after it sat over the weekend on a job site and spotted a mouse coming from the passengers floor board area and then hopping into the back seat and disappearing. I need to take all my tools out to clean and investigate. Does anyone know where the most likely spot is to check for a nest? How do they get in is though cabin air filter opening ?

I need to take all my tools out to clean and investigate. Does anyone know where the most likely spot is to check for a nest? How do they get in is though cabin air filter opening ?

Check the vents behind the rear passenger seats that balance the pressure when doors close. That’s where they were getting in when I had my ranger. Also check the under seat storage they may be building a nest under the jack cubby. If you check those and air filter that should rule out most of the entry points that are known about. I would take a look at the thread @AzScorpion mentioned in his comment. A lot of us had issues and there is a lot of pictures and solutions.

Up in Goodyear I never saw a mouse in 12 years but I was farther from the open desert and it was so hot up there I think they just spontaneously combusted. lol

Ah okay, I didn’t read your post right I didn’t realize you merged them. Yeah I would definitely take all the cowls and rear seats off to put some hardware cloth around the vents and openings if your bored one day.
