When hauling bikes I frequently drive with the tailgate down. Whenever I back up there is a continuous warning sound - I assume because the backup camera is facing the ground, but there are other sensors in the rear bumper and they are not being blocked. A lot of people use bed extenders and drive with the tailgate down so I'm surprised Ford hasn't figured out a way to prevent this annoyance.

Do other people experience this warning with the tailgate down? Is there any way to temporarily turn off this warning? It's a useful warning when the tailgate is up, but really annoying when the tailgate is down, and It's really starting to bug me so any help will be greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately there's no way to turn this off. I use my bed extender for work and It is annoying having to listen to this all the time especially if you're on a phone call.

You can turn this off...See posts below.

back up assist is in the driver assist menu, you can turn it off but all that does is give you a popup whenever you reverse that you have to confirm you want it off.... its annoying

Where is the button Mike? All this time and I could've just shut this off?
Dave, It's the middle bottom button marked off P》》 that will also silence the front sensors when they get snow, ice or mud covered. It should reset back on after the trucks shut off and doors open then close.

Turn off the Parking Assist.

That will silence the alarm.

Thanks for all the helpful replies. I just went out and looked at my XLT and I don't have this button (see pic below). Does that mean I'm destined to hear this alarm forever?

Buy the different set of buttons and get busy with forscan. It’s 99% something you can fiddle with, and you might be able to find the buttons at a wrecker yard or from another forum member.

my xlt has the button, so maybe it only comes with the 302apackage, or you have a mis build.

Bitten by hi-tech again.

We bought an XL... to avoid those horse and pony show items.

On my f150 I would get the alarm and alert on the dash by the speedo, if I pushed the left OK button on the steering wheel while the alarm sounded it would silence.

we know...you constantly remind us of that...constantly. like never ending
And the fact that you notice and are bothered by it is just icing on the cake.

People unfamiliar with the variations in Ranger trim levels XL vs XLT vx Lariat may find less tech is better.

We need a poll on XLT drivers to see how many have/don't have the button.
