Hello all,

i do very little towing,

but when I do, it is always going to be near the top of the ranger’s rated capacity. So a trailer brake controller will be needed.
but i dont think i need the more expensive one, just something functional, but dont want to spend a ton.
does anyone have a suggestion?

Works great

Depends on if you consider $250 expensive for a brake controller

I did see that one but wondered about reviews. So just set it and forget it? Only time you need to engage phone would be turn up intensity or to manually brake?

The Curt Echo was my top choice, until I decided to bite the bullet and order the Ford one. Both of these are the only ones that work with the emergency braking (and ACC braking). The Ford one takes a bit of patience and skill to install, but looks cleaner. Frankly, if I was only towing a couple times a year, I'd do the Echo. I am buying a travel trailer that will be used a lot. I was also concerned with the Echo being 'exposed' and able to be stolen.

Before you invest in a TBC, be sure the trailer to be towed has electric brakes, otherwise the TBC is useless. Some trailers have surge brakes, which don't require a TBC.

Yup set it in the app and forget it. And yes exactly it functions like a normal one without the headache of wires or instal

I have my own opinions on this subject, which I've expressed in other threads.
Only thing I'll say here is going cheap is not something you want to do where safety is involved. Especially if you are going to be near the top of the trucks rated capacity.

I have a Prodigy P2 in my garage that I don't need and will sell for about half of the new price. PM me if interested.

I went with the Redarc Liberty because I liked the install in place of the left 12v outlet. The Redarc setup was ~$170 at Etrailer.

Hi,
I was thinking of getting the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite BC but, think I will get the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty instead.
Besides the controller itself, do I need to order anything else?

Universal wiring harness.

The Liberty doesn't include the harness, since I guess you can get vehicle specific ones. The Ranger needs the universal.
