Okay, so here's my predicament (not really a predicament as much I don't know a lot about tires). My XLT came with 255/65/17 from the factory. Will I be good to go with a 265/65/17 in a replacement tire? I know what each number means regarding tire sizing. I know the 265s are 10mm wider than the 255s...but what I don't know is the impact that getting a slightly wider tire is going to have on my speedometer, if any (not really too concerned with mpg impact). The profile remains the same (65), so theoretically the diameter of the tire should remain the same if I stay in the same 17" tire size, right? So I shouldn't need a speedometer adjustment?

There are ways to correct your speedometer. Also that small difference won't make too much of a difference. It would still be best to correct the speedometer and a simple search will help on that. As for a slightly wider Tire impacting fuel mileage? It technically can but chances are it will be minimal

The profile is a percentage of the width Your diameter should increase just a tiny bit. Not even notable.

For me, going from the same to 265/70R17 I was off almost 3 mph.

33.5 pound tires. A bit pricey and longevity might not be there but they kick butt performance wise! Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV. My perfect tire, hopefully it performs as people say.

Here’s a dyno comparison with different weight tires. About 26 hp loss and 20 torque loss with the bigger tires. Pulled it off a ranger fb page.

Exactly why I retained stock height and stock unsprung weight. Appreciate the real data though, always knew it was a big difference.

I've narrowed my search down. It looks like the Toyo Open Country A/T III's are the clear winner. I haven't yet pulled the trigger on this. And I'm thinking I want to upsize them to 20's

Currently my Hancock Tires 35 lbs (265/60-18) on
the Ford Black Edition Wheel

KB3Z-1007H weighs 33.5 lbs which gives me a total of 68.5 lbs.

The Factory Ford Lariat Wheel

KB3Z1007B comes in at 37.3 lbs for a total of 72.3 lbs

So trying to find a combination that meets this criteria:

Not more than the factory 72 lbs or less
Decent dual purpose tire

I love the looks of the MickeyThompson, Ridge Grappler, Wildpeak but they are all 5-6 lbs heavier than the Toyo's

So in a 275/55r20 size they are 42-48 lbs and the rims I am looking at Mamba M14

FYI, weight was one of my considerations as well. I ended up putting the Toyo AT IIIs on my stock Lariat wheels and I’ve been REALLY happy with them. Great in the rain and snow. The only downside is you will lose some MPGs - but that will happen with just about any other tire.

If you're not doing any serious offroading there are many P-metric AT tires that are lighter than their LT rated equivalents. Toyo AT3 and Falken Wildpeak just to name a few.

Good to know. I really just like the look, but my truck has to be able to get my boat out of the water and get dirty on occasion. I have a UTV for play.

20's are ok if you want a street truck..... If you want to go OffRoad then do yourself a favor and don't go bigger than 18's

Ok you all have got me thinking since my new Ranger Raptor rims will be in my hot little hands tomorrow. I need to choose the tires now. :crazy: they are 17's while the stock Lariat are 18's. I will use the 18's probably for snow/winter tires. thanks for all the input.

If you go on tire rack or tires dot com they list the weights in the specs.

This site makes it even easier.

Tires Size

Click on the menu top left then tires and then by size.
