Good choice.. I purchased an SMD led set on Amazon and this set which is CREE led.. These are much brighter and cleaner looking.
Hi Tony,

Okay...Installed and much brighter... A bit of a PIA to get the old one out for some reason. I also used shrink tubng on the connection for both isolation and keeping the connection together. :)

Awesome! I too had a hard time getting the drivers side light out, especially didn't like playing with a brand new truck. Unfortunately I had to do it twice and the aftermarket ones are even tougher to get out. The first SMD set I installed I wrapped the connectors with Super 33+ Electrical tape and by the time I pulled them out to replace them with these the tape had already begun to unravel. With these I used the same tape and tiny zip ties to keep them from unraveling. Ive got shrink tubing but its the adhesive kind and I’m concerned that if ever have to replace these or one burns out it might be difficult to remove it. Hope i don't have anymore issues.

Enjoy your new lights :)

I'm sure it's been asked before, but does anyone know if the XLT has the wiring in the mirror for either the puddle lights or turn signal lights?

If I remember correctly it doesn't and would require different wiring harnesses, which you could potentially buy maybe? but its for the entire door and I doubt the wiring harnesses from the door to the rest of the vehicle are different, but someone feel free to prove me wrong.

Hi Jesse,

Cannot prove you right or wrong. The check would be at the part counter. If the door harness for XLT, XL and Lariat are the same, then the wires are there. Different part numbers and then it is a good bet the puddle light wires are not there. I wonder of the underside of the mirror has a plug for non puddle light vehicles. Simply removing the plug and searching (dental mirror?) for wires might pay dividend as well.

These types of questions were much easier when I was at Ford as we had all these different configurations and it was easier to tell folks what they could modify and what was not easy to modify. Being on the outside now only allows me to indirectly try to be helpful. I am betting the wires are not there for non Lariat vehicles but are probably common between XLT and XL. JMO!

What did you have to modify to get them to fit?
Same here re: fitment. They are not an exact match but will fit. The hardest part is removing the originals. In my case I found busting the lens off on the old lens, after pulling the one side down, helped allow the body to flex enough to remove. Install is in the reverse. Insert the lip side first at a 45 then push up and in on the other side to lock in.

Hi Larry,

When I changed mine out based on Rob (Redland Ranger), I just worked gently and was able to remove in one piece. New install was pretty much plug and play. Tools I use were plastic trim tools to keep from marring the mirror finish. Very happy with the results, but I rarely drive at night and if I do it is in the Lincoln MKX.

Thanks Phil. I tried the trim tools first but that little bugger wouldn't cooperate. I was able to remove using the gorilla method without causing noticeable damage to the mirror housing. Since I didn't care about the old units I wished I had removed the lens sooner. It would have gone quicker. Hopefully others will be successful with the trim tools.

I just used a small screwdriver on the spring tab as I recall. It wasn't that hard to get them out.

I certainly like the LEDs better than the wimpy stock ones....

No, they are halogens. That is why they are kind of yellow I think. I really like the LEDs much better - for $20, it was a great upgrade I think. Wintertime here the nights get pretty long. Driving to work in the dark, driving home in the dark. Extra lighting is really nice.

Sounds silly, but those puddle lights was one of the things that made me choose a Lariat (among other things). Heated mirrors was another that (I think) is only available on a Lariat. I actually used them last weekend when driving in the hills. The mirrors were fogging up and I turned on the rear defrost and almost immediately they cleared.
does anyone know if they can be added to an XLT? are the wires already in place? I do have the folding power mirrors but no puddle lights, --- I would like them and lighted vanity mirrors but one thing at a time.

I would start with looking at your mirrors for a block out plate where the puddle lights would be. If you have it pop the block out plate out and look inside.
