Well said. Here's the deal: FORD SHOULD PUT THE BEST HEADLIGHTS AVAILABLE IN EVERY SINGLE VEHICLE THEY MAKE. Because safety.

So guys are always trying to get around the crappy stock halogen headlights why? Because it sucks driving at night with those lights that's why. And properly designed projectors ALWAYS work better than reflectors do. Period. But since FORD obviously is using upgraded headlights as a motivation to buy top of the line trim level packages, everyone else is stuck with these shitty halogen headlights that work marginally at best.

I bot an XLT Ranger because I got $8k worth of incentives to buy that instead of a Lariat. I spent a little under a hundred to put LED lights in the reflectors. Cutoff is not perfect. It was not perfect with the halogens either. I have not gotten flashed even one time. The LEDs are vastly superior to halogens. Period. The headlights SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE BEST DESIGNED PROJECTORS with HID preferable or secondly LEDs. But they are not and it's all about the money. More important than safety. Obviously.

I can live with the Auxito LEDs in my truck now in marginal reflector housings. I do not get flashed and I can see at night. Not perfect, but way better than the stock halogens. THE END

With the new crash test ratings also including headlight lux, I imagine we will see improvements in reflectors with led bulbs in the coming years.

On another note, perhaps a longer or shorter design will decrease the glare created. If you move the position of the led (not replicate the halogen bulb filament location), it could increase the effectiveness of the emitted light and reduce the unwanted side effects.

Agreed. The XLT is a weird combination of LED lighting in the rear and halogen/incandescent in front. I was disappointed that better headlights weren't offered as a separate option and only as part of the Lariat. I understand that they want to simplify things by packaging options into trim levels, but there are always some things that are individually available and I personally think upgraded headlights should be one of them.

Like someone else said, changing safety requirements might eventually make better lighting standard, which will be bad for the retrofit LED makers, but better for drivers on the opposite side of the road ;)

OMG. Does anyone have any tips for changing the fogs?!? I installed my Auxito low beams today - very easy. Then I swapped the oem fogs for some 5k h11’s I had in the garage while I decide what to use long term. Well....as alot of you know, the drivers side is not too bad. But - the passenger side is REALLY BAD! I struggled for about 30 minutes and almost gave up trying to get the new bulb seated. My hands and forearms are bruised and battered. It has me re-thinking changing them again. Any tips or advice?

Like I mentioned previously, I swapped my fogs in less than 20 minutes. It helps if you have slender hands and wrists and can function ambidextrously

Would it be any easier to just swap out the entire housing? I ordered the replacement pods, hopefully it will be easier to just replace the whole thing each side.

The new Car Rover bulbs I got are much better. Light is much more focused and less glare.
Do they make something that will work for the highbeams? I see you are using their stuff for your fogs and low beams.

They do, but I haven't bought them yet. I'm using a set from a previous vehicle right now. One day I'll but them just so that they match the brightness of the low beams.

Car Rover doesn't have 16k.

If your referring to the Auxito's, post#7 has a link.

After reading thru this thread and gathering data/Intel, this appears to be facts about LED lights in the Ranger reflector housing.

- max advertised lumens should not exceed an advertised 12k lumens for low beams
- max heatsink size should not exceed 35mm diameter and 24mm depth/height

If you go over the 12k lumens, be prepared to reaim your headlights. If you exceed the heatsink size, expect your dust caps to not fit properly, if at all.

If you're concerned about heat and the fans inability to cool, consider that ambient air flowing over the headlight will lower the inside temp. If that doesn't put you at ease, you can look into adding a filtered breather vent to the housing, like this https://www.theretrofitsource.com/bolt-on-breather-vent.html. I do not know a suitable location to place it though. Upon inspection of the housing, it looks like it may already have a vent (see pic).

CarRover made me a deal to try out a new set of bulbs they just came out with. I'm super impressed. They are in the 1:1 format (no extra box). I was initially skeptical about how well they would work due to the lack of being able to rotate them, but I guess I was wrong. Holy crap are they good! Nice focused tight beam. They installed super easy and clear the dust caps with ease. They are also really quiet. I couldn't hear them with the dust caps off! I think you guys will be really impressed as well. The only downside (and it's not really one) is they I'm going to have to aim my lights again. I had to turn down the headlights due to the old LEDs, but these are going to have to go back up. Probably back to where the halogens were by the looks of things. Here's a link if you want to check them out:

This may be a dumb question but which ones did you buy. I am looking and don't see the h11.
