Hey folks. Having a minor leak - maybe a tablespoon a month coming from the gasket after installing the PPE pan. Its annoying, but not a huge problem yet. I dropped the pan and replaced the gasket a 2nd time. cleaned the shit out of it as well. Its still leaking. I am now thinking its gotta be:
1.The torque specs are wrong and the bolts are too loose.
2. 2 new oem ford gaskets were defective (DOUBTFUL)
3. the PPE pan is warped.

I called PPE and they said the odds of warping are almost zero.

Before you ask - yes i torqued to spec and followed the torque pattern.

I am at a loss. What should i do? I am about to drop the pan again, remove the gasket, and try a liquid gasket, but i dont want to if you all know a trick.

I was also wondering if liqui moly is worth trying.

That's pretty odd. You might be the first person that's had a problem with that gasket sealing.

I would get hold of a good straight edge and check the pan when you pull it off.

I can't remember the torque spec offhand for the pan bolts but it isn't much more than hand tight.

For Ref: OEM Pan Torque Specs
Do not know if PPE has a different set of specs

Ensure you have the (stud bolts) in the proper locations, they MAY be longer - not sure

Is your T-Wrench (calibrated accurate)?
Have you rechecked the torque since install and it's been heated up?

Since I do not have the PPE Pan - I have the following questions

Is the pan flange Thicker than the OEM and did they supply longer bolts with it?
If using the OEM bolts you do not have enough thread engagement for proper torque if the flange is thicker.

I would think the PPE pan being aluminum would be a different torque spec

Advice- Whatever the Torque Specs are
Start in the middle of the pan and work out
Stage the Torque in 2 or 3 passes - example for factory (stud-bolts)
First pass - 30 in lbs - 2nd pass 60 in lbs - 3rd final 106 i lbs
do the same for all bolts

Then after it has been heated up (driven) go back and recheck the torque

Strange. I was a bit sloppy installing mine. I used my adjustable torque cordless drill/driver. First pass at at the lowest torque, second at a higher torque that 'felt' like spec. No leaks. No sealants.
The gasket has two rubber grommets to align and hold position. Likely you got this correct but it may not hurt to recheck.
As far as sealants, I'd be careful. Any goo residue could be bad for the valve body. My go-to gasket sealant is Permatex aviation form-a gasket. It is only soluble in alcohol and has a fairly long tack time. Paint both sides of the gasket to limit spill over. Tack the gasket to the pan and install. Rubbing alcohol will clean up any mess.

Hurricayne,
Try a wee bit of RTV on both sides of the gasket..thin, not too much that it oozes into the pan. You should be able to use the existing gasket unless it is all bent out of shape or torn,
