Is the truck new to you or has this developed recently? Turbo lag is common, the time it takes to spool up the turbo. Couple that with a transmission programmed for "economy" that gets into the highest gear possible to keep the RPM's down and you have a good lag. Trans has to drop a couple of gears, turbo has to get going and finally, the truck gets going. I say the tranny lag is worse that the turbo lag. I used to drop to Sport mode when I knew I was going to need some power. Finally got tired of that and got the FPP Procal tuner. I don't care about full power runs, it just makes it more pleasant to drive. I haven't use sport mode since I got the tuner. A friend who is not a car guy at all, commented on the lack of lag.
The fpp procal tuner sounds interesting.. may i ask how do gou get it? Is it something you request when you go to a mechanic?

Sounds similar to what I’ve lived with.
Gentle on the pedal it’s fine but if you need that sudden burst of speed, things go flat, stalls. Mostly under 2k rpm.
I’ve also lived with a stumble between 1500-2000.

I have found something that improves, no it eliminates it. A recent marketplace purchase from another inmate here has fixed it on my truck.

It’s an electronic throttle control by Speed Form. This device has several settings but the only one that’s tolerable for me is the Eco mode. Every other setting and the throttle is too sensitive, jumpy.
Eco mode setting didn’t make any difference in fuel mileage BTW.

Also a tune did help my “stall” but didn’t eliminate it.
Could be a turbo lag learning curve or a quirk like mine.
Does it mean the lag is normal?

Try replacing your spark plugs. Mine perked up with fresh plugs, it wouldn't shift to higher gears and felt generally a little sluggish. I went with a step colder plugs to go with my ford performance tune and it was much happier for it

I think it’s your transmission waking up. You are probably two or more gears too high and the truck has to drop some gears before responding to your foot. It makes it worse if your pedal response is not consistent when putting it down. It wants to be in the highest gear possible and so if you are cruising, you are probably in 10th gear. When you accelerate abruptly, it will probably need to drop to 6 or 7th gear. Check your trans readout (press the +) button to display your gear and watch how quickly the trans jumps to 10th, and how slowly it goes back down. And watch how it reacts when you cruise to where you need to hammer down suddenly.

Levittown Ford as well as other places like Stage 3 Motorsports and American Truck. If you are still under warranty, have a Ford dealer or ASE Certified mechanic do it. I have a good friend that is a ASE Certified mechanic so he did it with me. 91 octane or higher is required. Here is the info on it. https://performanceparts.ford.com/part/M-9603-REB

I've never checked the manual because I've always run at least midgrade or premium octane fuel, but I've heard Ford recommends it. Probably won't affect lag, and the tables in the ECM might have to be cleared to re-train it if you've been using 'regular' for a long time but maybe that is affecting the perception of performance.

I understand some tuners have anti-lag programming and Banks' Pedal Commander supposedly addresses this.
