We do get on some pretty gnarly trails at times, but I honestly think the FX4 will be plenty. Frankly, we did fine with an old 1/2 ton pickup 4X4 with just a rear locker (no fancy software to figure out which wheel of four should get the torque).I'm not saying the Tremor is not a more capable truck but I think there is some justifications there with the owners and extra costs. I get on Forest Service Roads all the time in Colorado and my FX4 is plenty capable, especially with the Trail Control system to assist. Your going to have to find some serious trails up in the mountains (I'm not interested in those) to out do my FX4.....just sayin....
My interest in the Tremor was actually the smoothness of the ride on rougher pavement and maybe the tougher/faster washboard sections we do run into (softer springs and better rebound control shocks) than anything trail capability wise (although the Hankook's this thing came with definitely are not my old K02's).
In the end, this FX4 will be a fine solution to my needs. Driving it home from the dealer, about 200 miles through some serious mountain twisty highway roads, by the time I got home I knew I had made the right decision on this Ranger. Not too big, not too small, kind of a three bears thing.
