It seems I opened up a can of worms with this post.. and now I’m glad I posted it! I’ve been googling this issue for months and checking this forum and didn’t see anyone complaining about it until now.

It’s just annoying, that’s all. Having to hold the nozzle for a few minutes isn’t the end of the world. It just bothers me that Something that should work.. doesn’t. I’m not going to bother with the dealer because I don’t want them driving my truck around... its not worth it to me?

I have lived in SoCal all my life and have to agree that California has a LOT to stupid laws and regulations put in place by the ignorant socialistic voters masquerading around a Democrats. And I know what you are talking about regarding those bulky and clunky gas nozzles.

My Ranger is the first car I have owned that had the 'capless' fuel tank cap and I haven't really had any significant trouble with fueling up the truck.. I get the occasional early trip off of the valve but not enough to consider it a problem.

I absolutely detest, abhor, despise, loathe, and in all possible ways dislike the cap less filler setup. ????? There is nothing in this world that fills me with disapprobation towards an inanimate object more than the cap-less filler.

I typically refuel when I get to 1/4 of a tank and without fail it cuts the pump off and burps up and out the filler after 4.25-5 gallons have been pumped in. After that the only I can resume filling is if I keep it at the lowest notch setting on the handle for at least 2 gallons. If I go any faster it instantly stops the pump. Only after spilling gas down the side of the truck, then adding a near extra 5 min to the fill up time can I resume full flow to finish filling the tank. Then to rub salt in the wound when I remove the pump nozzle and the trap door closes even if the flow has been stopped for a minute or more from the depths of the ether the fricken thing pukes a little bubble of gas up once again.

I swear it's like trying to feed a 3 month old split pea baby food....

I have taken it to the dealer and I bet you can guess what they said?

"Couldn't replicate the reported issue." :punch:

I even went back when I was low on gas and they had one of their tech walk to the gas station next door and wouldn't you know it this miserable bastard wouldn't do it...
Lol, this brings to mind when I was working as a gas jockey in the mid seventies and refueling early sixties Falcons/Comets. If you tried to pump gas into those things with any haste they'd vomit out whatever fuel you've already pumped into it. I've been told that Granadas/Monarchs were similar.
Love your analogy to feeding a 3 month old because that is exactly what would happen.
Strange that my '65 Mustang never had this problem, it would gladly take in anything.

the problem with people that leave California because of the over taxation an regulation is as soon as they get to a new state that's affordable they vote for the same crap stuff.

While in the Navy I was stationed in San Diego....it was beautiful, tons of cool stuff to do but with the traffic an expenses it just wasn't worth it to me. If I were a millionaire I'd love to live there. An this was in the mid 90's before it got really crazy an expensive

CA is in a downward spiral... its funny any liberal would ever leave here because its the utopia for socialism/high taxes that they all love so much. Me as a conservative am tired of my vote never going anywhere.. not even close.

Oh and we have been on the road for over 2 weeks out of CA, and I haven't had a single issue with a gas pump.

I have had this same issue. Super annoying. I have an Explorer and Focus also with capless design but only my Ranger has issues. It won’t stay latched down but when I force it down I can get it to stay but there have been times that I haven’t been able to get it out. Then I have to yank hard to get the nozzle out and when it finally comes loose gas gets on my clothes. I’m afraid there is or will be a problem with the purge valve.
