Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm from the VW world. When I was swapping out the lights and grille on my truck this weekend, I noticed this when pulling back the fender liners ?. Is this amount of rust normal? I picked up my truck last week Monday, and it sat for three days while I got my tail lights tinted and it hasn't been driven in any wet weather or off road yet. I have an appt Wed to get some paint chips taken care of so I may have them just make a note of it so it's in my records if there is any issue down the line.

This is a little bit disappointing for a brand new truck but that surface rust isn't going to cause any issues.
I figured as much. I'm sure after it was built it sat in the weather waiting on whatever took 2-3 months to install and probably in some harsh MI weather. I still want it noted in service records, better safe than sorry. ?

It is except for 2019s which has aluminum up rights...I'm sure the surface rust is not serious...no pretty either...

I also don't recall seeing any surface rust like that on my UCA's before I swapped them for the Icon's... but maybe mine was just an exception to that.

Was it a truck that needed chips and sat for month upon months?
Doubt it. I was told it was the bedliner and towing packaged that probably caused the delay. I opted for start/stop delete and also noticed hotspot was deleted too. I don't remember asking for the hotspot delete so maybe it's a package deal lol.

This is very normal, unfortunately. I had my own undercoating business at one time.
I used to tell people they should undercoat their car they day they drive it off the lot, because once rust starts you can't stop it.
Cars are like newborn babies, you can't wait a week to start looking after it.

1. There are no dumb questions, but you will get a lot of dumb answers.
B. That's just surface rust and won't jeopardize the integrity of the parts. Depending on where you live, in another year the whole knuckle will be covered in surface rust.

You can spray it with a rust neutralizer, several brands out there like Loctite etc , it turns rust black stops it. Makes it paintable.
Yea that's what I was thinking of doing.

Most vehicles transported from the north in winter months get coated with a mist of that new liquid deicer mist that is used on the roads up here. The truck tires on highways keep a mist of it in the air. It's very corrosive and now they are finding it even is hard on aluminum that usually just oxidizes to save itself. Welcome to the snow belt aftereffects. My new Silverado LTZ just about rusted through the frame members after 2 winters because of the crap steel and wax coating they use.

My Truck had some surface rust on the drive shaft right off the lot. Normal depending on how they ship them...
