Not to worry about the surface rust on there. Now it is ugly but will not hurt the parts.

Normal. If it bothers you, a can of Rustoleum Rust Reformer will be your friend.

Normal. I would not spray preventer on it unless you protect the rubber boot. It may react and deteriorate it.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I'm from the VW world. When I was swapping out the lights and grille on my truck this weekend, I noticed this when pulling back the fender liners ?. Is this amount of rust normal? I picked up my truck last week Monday, and it sat for three days while I got my tail lights tinted and it hasn't been driven in any wet weather or off road yet. I have an appt Wed to get some paint chips taken care of so I may have them just make a note of it so it's in my records if there is any issue down the line.

You’re going to start seeing this in a lot of places under your truck Mark. On welds, bolt heads, outer CV shafts, drive shaft, and a lot of other places. It certainly looks troublesome but it’s normal and you shouldn’t be too concerned. Rust neutralizers can certainly help ease your angst.

It always looks worse on cast iron parts like that knuckle and they’re visible from the side of the truck. My 2019 has aluminum but if I had these later versions, for aesthetic reasons only, I likely would have neutralized the rust, cleaned them up, and painted them when I swapped in my new suspension.

You’re not the first member to be alarmed by this but after waiting so long, I’m sure you weren’t expecting it to look like it was a brand new truck body mounted on a used chassis. ?

when these rust questions come up, it always brings to mind a little story.

I grew up in the rust belt. I'm used to vehicles rusting out (newer vehicles do a good bit less of this than they did in the 80's and 90's, I've noticed), so a little surface rust on the undercarriage was never a thing that concerned me.

I bought a new car in Pittsburgh and maybe a year after buying that car, moved to TX. First time I took that car to the shop in TX, the mechanic lost his shit over how much rust was on the undercarriage. acted like I parked the damn thing IN the ocean every day. I just rolled my eyes at him.

Early morning, not enough coffee, lazy fingers, and my iPad’s auto fill feature - a bad combination.

Still no excuse, my apologies Morgan. ?
No worries, gave me an excuse to post that clip ?.
