Just found this little box dangling between my battery and driver side headlight. Is it a GPS tracker?

I bought the used truck from my local Ford dealer 2.5 years ago. Never knew this was a thing until I saw a YouTube video this morning and I went looking.

Thoughts please.

No markings or part numbers?
I am curious what connector they are tapped into; it looks like the headlamp connector, might be a tap off control for lighting.

Yes it is, dealerships put these in vehicles in case they get stolen from their lots. My wife’s truck had one when we bought it used. I removed it and installed my own. I seriously doubt the dealership is tracking you but it gave me peace of mind removing it.

I‘m pretty sure it was installed by the Brook Trout Mafia. They’re keeping an eye on your movements so they can live to swim another day.

@underwhelmed since you bought your truck used, does it have the OEM Halogen headlights? Is that box plugged in-between the headlight and the main harness? Where does that green wire go? Do you have any extra aftermarket lights on the front of the truck?

I know it's a lot of questions, but as @airline tech mentioned it might be a inline tap for some added front lighting or aftermarket headlights.

Most of the tracker I've seen are wired in under dash.

Why would they track you with a separate GPS module when they can do that through the car already?

I forgot my aftermarket LED headlights. Probably related to those. Shouldn't I be getting smarter with age?

You might want to secure that with a zip tie or two just to keep it from rattling around.
