Hello new friends,

about 2 days ago I bought a 2020 XLT Sport with 71k on it. Been researching and deciding between the ranger, Colorado, & Tacoma. I’ve had a few tacos and they drive like hell with the 6 speed. Didn’t want to pay 30+ for the new Colorado and ended up out the door for 20k with 4k on my traded in accord (I couldn’t even sell that thing privately for 4k). So feel like a got a solid deal.

Anywho. Yesterday I thought I had a buzzing in my dash until figuring out it’s just my injectors screaming at max vol. I know these are loud but I can hear these things clearly from inside the cabin. See videos attached.
Are we saying this is completely normal? Worth doing any diagnostic testing or replacing? No lights on the dash. Not sure if there’s a replacement interval on these, I know the stealership did a fuel cleaning service or whatever they call it, but I’ll never trust anything done at that place. They’re louder when it’s cold but also comes and goes. Halfway through my drive home today they randomly went silent. I’ll throw a can of seafoam in my next tank but that won’t fix anything. Thoughts from the educated?

They are pretty loud and I always say they sound like a sewing machine. lol

As far as videos go when they're to long you have to upload them to another host site like YouTube. Then you can just put the URL into this space and it'll play.

Some of the noise is caused by the high-pressure fuel pump mounted on the top rear of the engine. See if this is where the noise is the loudest. To me, it sounds normal for the Ranger 2.3L engine. Some have added an insulating cover over the fuel pump to make it somewhat quieter.

Also the OP doesn't have the engine foam cover. If you install that, it will help quiet the engine noise.

Mine were always loud enough to plainly hear inside. Between the injectors and the HPFP the EB 2.3 is a noisy little bugger.

Sounds about like my 2019 w/65K miles.
I decided that I’ll start worrying about it when they stop making noise…

Anyone ever replaced their injectors and noticed a difference?

Are you sure that it is injectors and not the fuel pump making the noise? Is the sound louder at the back of the engine? If so, it is likely the HPFP fuel pump.

over the last few weeks I've kept an ear to it and checked everything with a mechanics stethoscope, which really led me nowhere. The injectors and HPFP are both loud, but nothing louder than the other. I do have the insulating foam over the HPFP. It feels like its louder inside the cabin than outside of the truck. Almost like whatever is controlling the injectors is buzzing rather than injectors themselves. Is there anywhere between the dash cluster, HPFP, and injectors I could check? Sending unit, relay, electrical connector attached to throttle position, anything else? I've checked the connectors on the HPFP to make sure they aren't rattling against the metal housing but they're fine.

For me I hear an extra noisy HP Fuel Pump, mainly noting the rattle (just off the throttle) but to confirm- listen to the Blow Off Valve & Purge Valve to verify the noise is not coming from those and pay close attention to the HP Pump for the noise - mainly the off throttle rattle - as that is what’s producing the noise.
Be it worn pump or mount pad (cam follower )

Update for anyone else looking to fix this on their truck. I replaced the HPFP and cam follower, made zero difference. Will continue to investigate
