OK…so I bought a Mishimoto pan and filter last year…and kept putting it off. I finally decided to change it today. I bought a Harbor freight pump…the time was too big…so what.
I used a Costco black tote as my drain pan. Plenty big enough. I just started pulling the bolts…as it started draining I made sure the tote was in position. I then poured it into a big measuring cup to ensure how much came out.
I changed the filter, fluid and pan. No big deal.
if you are on the fence about doing this…DO IT!!! My truck has 53k miles and I could not believe how dirty the fluid and the filter was.
I also replaced the transfer case and the diff fluid.
Not hard. Just take your time and follow the torque settings.
This is a pic of the fluid that came out.

Sorry you've had less than good luck with Dorman. I've actually had great experiences with Dorman products.

In fact, Dorman saved my butt when I had the 6R80 lead frame problem on my older F-150 and Dorman was the ONLY place I could get a replacement (dealer wanted almost $3k to do the repair AND couldn't get a lead frame replacement; some folks had their F-150s sitting at dealerships for over 6 months!).

Did the switch out of the lead frame myself and switched to the Dorman metal trans pan with drain plug as part of the repair (overall cost was under $750). Worked out wonderfully well. It's where I learned all about how ridiculous Ford has made trans fluid replacement.
I switched out a leaking plastic Thermostat housing on my 4.0l V6 Ranger engine with a Dorman aluminum unit that had a thermostat and sensors already installed. It had over time warped in 3 places. Cost me $35 and 1 hour to replace.

Then followed up with an aluminum one piece driveshaft after a repair shop bent the original. It was $600 and has performed well.

Last thing purchased from Dorman was a steel transmission pan with plug for $35. All have worked out fine on my 2005 Ranger.

Filling her back up is quick and easy through the Fitzstick...8 quarts went down with a 12v pump in under 30 seconds...look closely at the bucket level and you'll see it drop before your eyes...

Corporate drone. Dilbert's world is alive & well.
Just ordered one of the pumps mentioned by a few folks. Coming up on 50K miles and plan on doing the trans, diffs and transfer case. Got to say, I’m more than a bit nervous about even messing with the trans fluid. And yes I have the Fitzstick. But still… bit anxious.

Looks like you replaced the hoses with larger diameter ones.

I did, and that made a HUGE difference...
