OK, first off I own a 2021 Ford Ranger Lariat Tremor and love it but the thought of an awesome Raptor in a smaller package (Ranger size) seems incredible! I love they way they look online (I only like the look of the new Raptor and NOT the regular Rangers!) but hadn't seen one in person but the 400 hp seemed amazing and memory seats would be super nice (Damn Ford for not including them on MINE!...a Lariat Tremor with no memory seats = FAIL).
Anyway I saw one online close to me in the Azure Tri-Coat Grey color which looked killer in the pics so I called and talked to the sales manager. I gave him my VIN and asked what's the best he could do for my Trade-in and what was the best he could do for his Ranger Raptor. My truck has 30,300 miles and TONS of upgrades which I know doesn't add any value....except to me! But here's the link anyway

The sales manager first offered me $29,00 sight unseen just over the phone & $5,500 OVER msrp versus the listed $10K over.......that wasn't even worth driving over to see so I researched online and saw my trade-in should be worth $33kish based on KBB and Carmax offered me $31,400 again sight unseen but just using their online tool. I called the sales manager back and told him what I found online so he upped his offer to me for my truck to match Carmax at $31,400. not really impressed but I thought "what the heck it's worth a test drive" so I drove over there.
First impressions of the Ranger Raptor were cool but not overwhelming or breathtaking.....The color looked good but just not anything special and not worth an added $995......the truck sits slightly higher then mine but not much and the rims are kinda similar to mine. I honestly like the factory side steps on my Tremor better then the Raptor just because they look more sleek and functional. Anyway, inside was nice with the Raptor touches and the orange/red accents looked cool. I wasn't impressed with the huge infotainment screen because it just seemed overwhelming and not super user friendly. Who needs a huge tablet screen in an offroad geared truck?!. Thought I would love the huge screen but kinda made my feel overwhelmed and not focused on driving enough especially when the sales guy took forever to find the rear locking diff button that was somehow turned on. It took him a couple minutes.....just confirmed that more technology isn't always better! Same with the digital gauge cluster.....lots going on there to try to decipher. Yes I'm 55 but I'm not THAT old were I can't adapt to new technology!!..LOL Seats were comfy and everything laid out well EXCEPT not a fan of the gear shifter as I'm used to having my hand on it and shifting into sport more often then not.
The biggest disappointment was the power...mainly the lack thereof. It just didn't feel any faster/more powerful then mine! Yes mine is tuned with the Ford Performance Tune but that only adds 45HP and 60 lbft of torque......the Ranger Raptor should feel MUCH faster not slower or even equal to mine!. I can get a little squeak of the tires off the line with mine on a dry road but not the case with the Raptor even though I tried a couple times....just felt kinda slowish off the line and not really anymore powerful in regular driving then mine.
The suspension felt a little bit "floaty" and not really as "planted" as my Tremor. I again expected better road manners and instead it felt bigger then it is and kind a little bit "boatish" whereas mine feels planted, solid and nimble especially driving like I do which is fast in around the slow ass Priuses and Telsas!...LOL
The rear headrests don't recline (Mine do but I had to modify them) so it takes up a lot of rear view visibility. And I can't comment of the stereo but mind is the top of the line Bang and Olufsen and sounds fricking amazing and has great bass and sounds clear even cracked up!....No mention of the same stereo in the Raptor so I don't know if it's the same Bang and Olufsen?.
anyway, after the 10 minute test drive I wasn't even impressed enough to make an offer or negotiate a deal especially OVER msrp. I like the concept but it just didn't impress me enough over what I already have!! (Especially to make payments again and pay the difference in price and almost 6% interest!) Is this truck worth $57-$58K....hmmmm......that is for you to decide but I paid $1,500 over msrp when I bought mind new and was shocked at the prices then and mine was listed for $10K less (then prices now) at $47-$48K. I personally would NOT spend the $$$ on a Raptor because it's not overwhelming enough for me over what I already have!
So yes, I'm keeping my Tremor and glad I got it and glad I've modded it the way I want and also glad I have the 6year/125K miles Ford extended warranty as I looks like I'll be keeping mine for a long time!
Has anyone else test drove a Ranger Raptor and found it not that impressive like me? I'd love to hear your thoughts/comments!
