I'm sure that's the case as I never got to see my Rangers bed paint because the dealer had already put a drop in liner and a few other "dealer add ons" on the truck. My only guess it it's a lot thinner paint than the older F 150's were and it's scratching off from the vibration. Pretty cheap of Ford to skimp on this because not everyone puts a liner in their beds.

I wasn't doubting your post I just have a hard time believing stuff posted on social media especially Fakebook. :)
I removed my bed liner to install my cover and the bed had leaves under the liner. So glad I pulled it out. I cleaned it all up and put the liner back in and only took me about 45 mins to do and it was pretty simple.

Stumbled upon this today. I’m sure it would be a rather expensive option, but they do look good and I’m sure are bomb proof.
Now that's interesting. I was looking at something like this. But my concern with that was easy ability to remove it for extra room or if it gets in the way. Those pelican mounting options look like a much easier method. But pelican, though great boxes, are quite expensive. We'll see if I can justify something like that for just hauling around loose junk like chains and tow straps.

Be sure to take it out for the spray-in liner soon. Plastic drop in liners scratch the bed pretty badly.
Does it matter? They strip off the paint and prep the surface before doing a spray-in liner anyway. I don't see why some surface rust would be an issue.

I think he was referring to those who don't pull theirs out and just leave them in there. Down the road they could be developing rust issues and never know it until it's to late. How many people really pull out their bed liners to inspect the bed?

The only reason I pulled mine out of my F 150 was to put it into the next one. They were work trucks so I didn't care what the inside of the liners looked like as long as they were protecting the bed.

Milk crates with ratchet straps thru them and a moving blanket underneath for vibration

No worries. To each his own but I don't want ANY rust whatsoever on/in my truck.

Hey John... what was the condition of the bed like when you took out the bedliner? See any paint damage or rust?

Thanks.

What would be really interesting is if those cases could somehow be used in the pelican mounts, or vise versa. I completely agree for stuff like tow straps the pelicans may be a little overkill and what you linked is probably a better solution, but being that they are easily removed it might be nice the have the extra security/protection of the pelican for my range gear/firearms and just swap the cases depending on what I’m using the truck for that day.

The bed was in good shape when I took off the bed liner. My truck was built in early November and the bed liner was installed by the dealer. I pulled out the liner 1st week of Jan. So I feel I caught it before it could do any damage.

Thanks John. No scuffing, primer showing through the paint, anything like that?

Nothing but - just good old fashioned Oxford white paint everywhere. Again I found this pretty early and had not used my bed.

Doesn't worry me too much. It's very common to pull the tub off and fit an alloy or steel tray or commercial body from new in Australia, so heaps of new and near new "second hand" tubs are always for sale for next to nothing. Sometimes dealers almost give them away just to get them off the back of the lot. If I look around and was patient I could most likely even get the right colour. So if it ever gets that rusty I would just replace it.

As for stopping stuff from sliding around on the liner like many here I just use a couple of rubber mats, and some plastic tubs for things like shopping.
