I have the ranger technical manual, but can't for the life of me find where it says how to remove the air cleaner intake duct.
I see these tabs, but when i try to pry the intake out, it seems the plastic could snap -- there's probably some trick. Does anyone know how to remove it?

BTW this is the most disorganized technical manual I've had...I'm not sure why finding basic information is often this hard :D My 97 Ranger's Chilton and Hayes were so straightforward :)

Hi JB,

When you say air cleaner duct intake, are you referring to the filter in the intake? The motor craft one? Or I may not be familiar with this part. Either way just trying to advance the conversation. You won’t get help until probably 6am EST, it’s quiet nap hours hehe.

Warm regards,
Brandon

Thanks for asking :)
I'm referring to what's called the "air cleaner intake duct" in the manual. It's the snaked input tube to the filter box, that has two bolts holding it onto the top rail of the engine compartment.

On one end it's open air, and he other end is the filter box.
It's held in place in the filter box with small tabs that seem like they'll break, if forcing them...
Thanks for any thoughts :)

Interesting; thanks. I pulled like crazy (of course, after the bolts were removed), and it was just stuck in place.
I'll try again and be more aggressive :)

The intake snorkel as I call it got replaced on mine with the AfE one. I took out the paper filter, Un did the 2 torx fasteners and got a small block of wood and a hammer. Gave it a couple of pops and it came right out. That easy.

Thanks, interesting! It just slid out for them. I yanked several times, and even tried prying, and it was stuck solid -- not even a little give.

I'll fiddle around with it more and post back, for those who also might be wondering this :)

To those interested: it did come off, thanks to encouragement above:)
Yanking upwards was the key. It does take a lot of force, at least the first time.
