I didn’t mention the boot or the clamps because I thought you had the boot kit from Ford. That also made things easier for me.
Wasn't a doubt in my mind that I had clamps large enough. But I failed to verify prior.

This was an interesting thread. At least it wasn't one of those "I now need to buy that useless accessory that I don't need" type thread. I guess that I will be added to the long list of members doing this 'fix.' The video on the first page made it look simple. I am also in line to do the transmission pan, filter, and fluid project. Almost all of the parts are on hand finally. This one I dread!

That is the reason it took so long. You kept losing count of the ups and downs. When you count groans too, it helps to make you feel as though you are at least doing it right! Get a bigger cardboard floor pad too, it really helps!
I'm not going to be a math major when I do mine. I will start sunrise though so I can finish before sunset.

No doubt a groan escaped my lips a time or two. 😆 Funny, or maybe not, I’m to the age that most times I don’t even realize it.

Did the driveshaft today. After reading all of the suggestions, (Thank you) I went for the carrier drop method. Had a floor jack and a jack-stand for holding things up since I had my2x8 high ramps under the rear wheels. It is a homemade ramp setup. 4 layers high, and adjustable. Would hold up a semi! I also popped the rear clamp off and reused it. Time will tell is that an error in frugality! Having the wheels on the ramps, parking brake on etc, worked out well. Dropping the carrier and then pulling the shaft to one side let the shaft come out easily. Putting it back together only had about a 2 second oh-oh, and then it slid in okay. When I do the second Ranger I expect the time under the truck to be less than 20-30 minutes. This first one required too much up and down due to lack of knowing what was the best approach and what was needed. I'd do 10 of these before one transmission pan change! No fluid to spill. That is another messy story.

A little off topic, but for those reading this, are you having to proofread everything that you type to make it readable? I thought that I had a bad keyboard, but the replacement did the same thing. I don't t have this problem anywhere else. Somewhere in the system that the Forum runs on there is an issue that is causing dropped letters and sometimes complete words. If any one else is having this issue, it will explain why there are some strange words in these threads. I had to make easily 25 to 30 corrections, and quite a few in just this paragraph. I'm not an accomplished typist, but I am not THAT bad.

Lately, every time a new add loads onscreen, it takes the focus away from what you are typing. I have to re-click in the text typing area to be able to continue typing. It is very annoying. Hopefully, the administrators will address this issue.

Maybe if enoumembers make note of this, there might be a solution.

That is what I typed, without corrections. Painful! Translation: Maybe if enough members make note of this, there will be a solution. (Had to make one correction in this short group of words!)

OMG - I had that issue since I joined , and noted it would sometimes do it outside of this site, when my old laptop died and got new one - it was the same , finally dug deep into the issue and found this (u-Block Origin Light) it runs as an extension to MS Edge - finally no more - Ad-Click (Hy-Jacks) cursor stays put now - as that is what the pop ups are doing (Hy-Jacking) the cursor to their ad and all you see is - cursor is lost on the screen, I tried various methods and nothing worked but u-Block works flawlessly.
