Tailgate dampers seem to be a pretty polarizing topic around here, but if you do decide you want one they are really inexpensive and incredibly easy to install. Just make sure you have a Torx T50 driver on hand to do the job. Here's a short video I made demonstrating how to install the DZ43206 from DeeZee (which is the exact same part Ford will sell you at a markup if you order the kit from them):

I may or may not have had to run to Lowe's to do my install... :p
haha, A trip to Menards to buy one was on my list as well, but I lucked out that one of my work buddies had one I was able to borrow for a few minutes. But that did mean waiting a week after it was delivered to finally finish the install.

Getting a T50 Torx bit was the most time consuming and hardest part of the install for me. I'm not sure anyone, who isn't a car nut, who would have a bit that big already on hand. haha
I was lucky my wife's socket set had a T4.5 that worked. We got her a T50 at HomeDepot for 3 bucks later just in case.

You think Ford charges too much? These folks want to retire off of Ranger owners. ?

I just got one from AutoAccessoriesGarage and it was a super-easy install. BUT .... the strut that comes with the kit makes a weird, gurgling type sound when the tailgate drops down to the opened position. Hmmmm. Anyone else notice that with their set-up?

It should make a soft gurgling noise. If it’s loud that may be a good question for DeeZee.
