Our Rangers have AGM batteries which have a lower self-discharge rate than conventional, lead-acid batteries, which means they can hold their charge longer. They also have a smart charging system and a battery management system which are designed to keep the battery properly charged. As good as this system is, letting the vehicle sit for weeks could risk a dead battery, or at least one too weak to start the truck.

The system is designed to NOT charge the battery to 100%. It's not needed and it shortens the life of the battery. If the truck doesn't start, and it hasn't sat for weeks on end, there's something wrong that needs to be fixed. If it starts regularly, leave it alone.

The truck is smarter than you think -- proof of which is that it never posts online.

In the spirit of this thread: Battery Tenders and two hit wonders like THEM out of Belfast, Northern Ireland. Their other big hit was GLORIA. Van Morrison made a guest appearance in the following:

Yep, I realize that. It is a bit too far to walk both ways. Maybe I need to purchase a golf cart as well. ;)

I mentioned in an earlier post that we took a three-to-four-week trip abroad and left the Ranger sitting in the garage in the U.S. When we got back, it fired up right away, just like it always does from one day to the next. I should have added that about two weeks into our trip, I got a message on the Ford Pass App that the Ranger had gone into "deep sleep mode," which I thought was pretty cool!

Well, I have one with the ASS removed by the factory, so no sign there.
But if the ass on your truck was removed, how did we all endure that entire thread about the Ranger ass being too high up in the air?

I never would have remembered this one until you mentioned it. Recalling a 4th grade guitarist (from a family of guitarists) who played GLORIA at the school talent contest......
One of the first songs I learned play, along with I'm Not Your Stepping Stone by the Monkees and For Your Love by the Yardbirds.

The same youthful guitarist also well played 'Secret Agent Man' by Johnny Rivers from the prime time tv show. Those were the days - wondering what happened to everyone....

So a quick question for those more familiar with the electronics and battery maintenance (an apologies if it has been asked before) - How often is often enough to start and run my Ranger that would eliminate or greatly reduce the need for a battery minder? Typically, I am in my Ranger going somewhere at least twice (sometimes three times) per week, although it is possible that those trips may be less than a mile each way. Is that sufficient for battery maintenance, or do I need to think about a installing a battery minder?
Starting it up and just running it is really not a good thing to do. I would just get a battery tender and use it. I use the Deltran Battery Tender on everything we own. My Tremor is plugged in 24/7. This will lengthen your battery life and your truck is always fully charged and ready for the road. I have the quick disconnect coming out the grill. A warning though so you don't drive off connected....I got one of those "Remove Before Flight" straps, tied some paracord to it. I hang it from the turn signal arm across the steering wheel. This reminds my to unplug the Tender before moving/driving the truck.

My Ranger is primarily used for towing our camper and during ski season. So it frequently sits for 2 or 3 weeks at a time. Only once (during winter) did the FordPass app sent me a notice that the battery was getting low.
