Documenting maintenance and mileage?

I had a recent issue in another vehicle where I had to show multiple years of documented mileage history. Essentially the DMV screwed up and put the wrong mileage on my title and refused to fix it unless I could show an official source from every year for the past several years. Thankfully I had all my service records from paying others to change my oil... but I want to get back to doing my own maintenance again and I will be living in a state that doesn't require annual inspections... so how can I document the mileage at which maintenance was performed, both in case of a repeat incident with DMV and in case I need to make a warrantee claim?

I document mine on the Ford app.

It lets you upload pics too so you can post a pic of your receipt where you bought your oil and filter, etc.

There are also numerous apps on the Apple store or Google Play store for your phone or tablet.

I heard about uploading the maintenance records to the Ford app. I never did so I can't say if it works, but those that have like it.

I've uploaded all my self-service to the Ford App and it works great. Haven't had any problems!

I sure hope I never have to prove anything. I use a small note pad and write down mileage and maintenance performed. Zero proof of anything. Too late now I guess.

You can document and upload receipts to the Fuelly app. What's nice is it saves and calculates all your gas receipts and mileage too.

I quad log things. Ford App/site, aCar app, a spreadsheet, and a folder box with printed records. In the case of both apps, we are at the whim of those companies supporting those tools. I use the Ford since they made the truck and feel it works well, the blend of official dealer entered records with my own is nice (though with the dealer entries I normally end up adding my own duplicates because their entry is lacking so much detail). The aCar app I like as I have service intervals in there and its reminders work good since I also log my fuel purchases there too. Spread sheet is so I have a personally controlled storage. And the hardcopy storage is if a warranty company wants to see the receipts for the work, I print my own service records too. I modeled the lay out on the dealer invoice layout, but instead of the dealer's name at the top left it's just "Home Auto Service".

Stuff like this is why I take it in for the 10,000 mile service, even if it's just to rotate tires and "inspect" things (since I do most of my own maintenance). I just have an excel and a logbook in the glovebox.
