I think IIHS has it's own agenda maybe they should have crash the Wrangler into a 59 Chevy.
Heck of a waste of a classic car. :crying:

My '68 that my dad and I restored 13 years ago. Just a summer fun vehicle / ice cream getter. I've since added a back seat for the kids. It rides terrible, it's not extremely safe, not very comfortable. But it is fun. I briefly considered a gladiator before the ranger, but I'm glad I got the ranger. One jeep is enough I guess, for now ha.

A YJ... yeah that's pretty much 1950's technology.

Not exactly. The YJ, the first Wrangler, was created to help resolve the narrow axle/high center of gravity problem. A bit primitive, but created in the 1980's to update a vehicle created in the 1940's, so lets give the YJ a 1960's technology credit. haha

Granted my 1990 was so rediculously easy to work on, though the leafs at each corner made for an interesting ride, especially since it was my DD for 5 years. A job change that included a long 70 mile daily round trip commute, and then a failing tranny brought that adventure to an end.

I bought a brand new 2017 Wrangler Big Bear.

Sold it after a year and a half.

Turned out I wasn't a Wrangler person.
I had a 2017 Wrangler Sport, we didn’t like it either. 12000 miles we traded it.

I'm still a bit of a Jeep person, though not a Wrangler person.

I have a 2004 Grand Cherokee Overland with the 4.7 HO and Quadradrive system (last year of solid axles f&r)

I like it far more than I ever liked my Wrangler.

It's my hot rod 4x4.

The off-the-line torque from the V8 is a hoot (and a shock to ricers)

My better half has a 2008 Grand Cherokee with the 5.7 in it and honestly, it's a complete dog. It makes noise, but no power and literally everything in it has slowly been dying. The gear whine from the rear differential has gotten so bad that basically at highway speeds, we can't even talk to each other without raising our voices to overcome the noise. Not a single Jeep specialist has been able to fix it even though they've all promised they could. The thing is a pile but she's a Jeep nerd so she refuses to get rid of it.

Then again, it was made in the Daimler era so that probably has something to do with it.

I like the looks of the gladiator with a lift an some decent size tires under it but the only Jeep I'd consider buying now is the SRT8

I've heard that Jeep is the only vehicle that doesn't have to pass safety tests because it is classified as a "Utility Vehicle" rather than a car. Does anyone know if that's true?

I live in CO and love my Wrangler. It is great on 4x4 trails, in the snow and mud, but not as comfortable on longer trips. I'd probably add a Gladiator if I enjoyed overlanding, but certainly not if I lived in a big city. Instead I am looking for a Ranger as I'd like a reliable newer truck for towing, and longer trips in the winter. Buy a vehicle for what you want to use it for.
