Hi,

I was curious if anyone had used a bed extender like the one shown :here.

If so, how do you like it? Do you have a link to one (preferably amazon) that worked well?

Thanks!

I've had one for quite a few years. Don't remember where I got it (that was pre-internet shopping).
Works great for carrying long stuff. Not used often, but when needed for long lumber in these short boxes, it works well.
Make sure the vertical post is height adjustable so you can match it to hour hitch-to-bed height.
Had the wife sew a storage bag for it all to fit in.

I've been thinking of getting one of these, preferably with the arms on the uprights, to haul some Kayaks around.

I bought one for my buddy's F150 https://www.harborfreight.com/truck-bed-extender-69650.html Before I had my Ranger, he helped me pick up some lumber, metal roofing sheets, etc. It worked fine for lighter loads, but there was some noticeable flex when we had a few layers of 2x4x16s loaded up. If you plan on using it more than a few times and for hauling heavier loads like lumber, I would splurge and get something better than the HF version.

Bought one a few years ago that is very adjustable and breaks into pieces small enough to put in a bed toolbox. I hardly use it. It only supports about a foot or so past the down tailgate so 8-10’ lumber never needed it and 12’ could be done just flagged for a short trip (I think that’s past possible legal limits, never looked into it).

Now I’m holding on to it for my front hitch mount to compliment my bed rack. It’s been sitting in the garage for over a year and unless I pick something up over 16” it will most likely never be used.

I didn’t find it useful for over 12’ in the bed.

I use one. Bought it to give some some additional support for some Kayaks we haul around. Works well. I actually took 10 inches off the piece that goes into the receiver to set the correct legnth I needed.

I saw a guy at Lowe’s using one, loading 12 foot deck boards….I was very impressed and even stopped to ask him where he got it. He made his himself …… even more props!

10s of thousands of miles with kayaks just like this. The boat itself carries in the box without the extender, but I use it to stabalize the boat. Works great, even for a cheap light duty model, maybe 100 lb capacity.

And to get a little shorter to save on ferry fees, it can go high carry too. Awesome piece of versatility, but be very aware of the rating, build quality, and how you load it.
