Now that I’m recovered from my two recent minor surgeries I can get out again. Missed the last month of deer season so made sure the squirrel getter was still sighted in.

A simple thing, but ya never know if there's something I can learn about this....are there special kinds of gun cleaning mats that yall use? Are there good and bad ones? Something i should stay away from?

I just refinished an old oak desk to put in a spare room to house all my gun cleaning stuff and want to kinda protect the top a wee bit.

I'd find another desk to use....one little "oops" with a bottle of Hoppe's #9 and all that work is ruined.

If you care about that desk, don't clean guns on it. Gun cleaners will remove the finish, gun oils and grime will embed into it. Most cleaning mats are all made by 1-2 different companies for everyone else and are typically a layer of fabric/neoprene, and only help up top the edge of what they cover.

I picked up one of those cheap plastic folding tables from walmart. It's handy for stuff like this an fold up an takes little space.

I've covered my nice stuff with 1/4" plate glass cut to size,

The desk I use to clean my guns is a heavy metal frame 4' x 5' office computer table with a Formica top. Pretty much indestructible. My wife made me a quilted mat to place the larger parts of my guns on when cleaning them. Perfect for long guns.

My advice is just that... take or leave it...
  • Do not live in lawless areas of the country. If laws change or the area goes south, Move Out.
  • Obtain a CCW and Always carry.
  • Stay away from crowds.
  • Keep a low profile.
  • Always be aware... Survey your surroundings and stay alert.
  • And finally do not live in lawless areas of the country. If laws change or the area goes south, Move Out.

My main rifle & concealed carry. AR started out as a $499 M&P Sport II & $350 openbox buy EOTech on it, and was my first AR-15(owned AR-10 at the time). Piece by piece it was swapped out over the years & today it's Daniel Defense DDM4V7 with ACOG/RMR with Magpul grip, stock, backup sights & bipod. Surefire 3-prong for RC2 suppressor(not in the pic). Light is Streamlight AA battery model & might be the last thing to be upgraded on this rifle.
