Well that’s one way to replace tires! ?

bummer about your Ranger experience. Hope the Tundra treats you well!
Go big or go home  and thank you! I really liked the ranger except for the transmission and the short box. The tremor package was so good and the cherry on top of the ranger sundae.

Hahaha yup! At least Toyota is trying to actually fix it but I digress. I got a 2022 SR5 TRD Off-Road Crewmax long bed. Quite happy with it so far.

If you look at current half-ton trucks, you have options, but they all have major problems:
  • Ford F150: Same transmission problems as the Ranger on top of new recalls coming out every other day. The QC is down year over year and every single of my cousins that bought one in the past 3 years are having issues with their trucks.
  • GMC/Chevy: Would you like your lifter problems in the 5.3 or the 6.2 variant? They are also having issues with the transmission for all engine types. They also have a lot of electrical problems with the newer gens with lights not turning on or off, gauge cluster randomly resets or freezes and too short wiring that rubs agaisnt the frame or engine and end up shorting.
  • Ram: Do I need to say more? ;) Same front end problems and electronic problems they always had combine with the new one being out of my price range. The 5.7 Hemi being one of the thirstiest engine out there, with known problems that show up at low millage in cold climates.
  • Toyota: Engine issue covered by a recall, the rest seems OK with some rattles in the interior and the driver seat trim keeps cracking.
  • Nissan: Stopped selling trucks in Canada back in 2021. Good quality, but not a lot available on the used market that were not beat to death. It would have had to be an XD variant to get the crewcab and the 6.5 bed and those are even rarer where I am.
I picked the problems I wanted to deal with and had the most confidence in the company solving. Seems like the days of good reliable trucks are either coming to an end or are in a rough patch.
I was not aware that Nissan stopped selling trucks in Canada especially since the D41 is the current Frontier starting model year 2022. The Titan is supposed to be in its last year and apparently that has been for a few years. I know I would buy one of those before buying a Toyota. It's what I did a year ago to.get my 2012 Frontier.

They still sell the Frontier up here but not the Titan. I agree, if they kept selling the Titan I would have bought one.

Rams also have had the same issue of the engines setting themselves on fire on occasion…
I was trapped in a Dynasty that caught fire (engine fire that happened at idle.) when I was a kid..
Mom busted out the back window to get me out.. it was final destination like mishap.. I still remember it.. being very hot?.
so any vehicle that has engine fire as a somewhat more common than rare link to it… well I’m gonna avoid those vehicles.
I like the ram rebel too… wouldn’t get one but they look like the 5g big brother. To me anyway.
Tundra is a good pick I’m pretty fond of the 2010-2018 models.. my daughters grandfather has one and it pulled is nice fishing boat reliably for years.
You’ll love the tundra, I’m not super in love with the looks of the newer ones personally, still a good looking truck tho.

That's your tread after almost 80k miles? Must be some serious hard rubber.
Part of why I'm not impressed with that particular tire. Not that great with Wet and Winter Traction. The tires I use grip well in Wet and Winter and do have a shorter life than 80,000 miles.

Makes total sense.

I've never got more than 35k out of any tire on any of my trucks.
I think it's because the roads here suck. I'm OCD about checking the air and rotating the tires.
My sister, who lives next door in Ohio where its flat and the roads are smooth, had an Explorer with the same tires as my old Ranger, the air got checked and the tires rotated whenever the oil light came on, she has no clue what an alignment shop is, yet she routinely gets 70k on a set of tires.
My first replacement tires were Cooper AT3's, again less than 35k, I said screw it I'm not spending big money anymore because it doesn't freaking matter, so last year I got bargain brand Mastercraft A/T's for $180.

How do you handle turns and braking?
