Mine lasted 35k miles before they hit the wear bar. They were easily the worst tire I have run since I started driving.
Half of those miles were towing and with payload, but I'm usually able to get 55k-65k miles before I need to replace tires. I had multiple flats, tires were chunking, poor performance in snow and ice and bad in mud.

They were quite good in the rain, performed well on gravel road and in sand, but I did not like them.

That’s it! Could not remember the name. Those were OE on my Fronter NISMO. I failed to even get 30K out of them granted they could / probably have updated the rubber comped over the years. But my friendly advice is to think twice before purchasing.
Well they have a 60k warranty. Could be that as an OE tire they are made differently to meet a Nissan requirement.

Anyhow, most likely will go with the Grabber APT or Continental Terrain Contact AT since my son's shop gets a good deal from General/Continental.

Well that sucks. Guess between the towing and cargo they just couldn’t hack it.
Just curious, what did you go with for the replacements?

Won’t argue that. Should have proofed it before posted. Was in a hurry.

cliff notes: thought my Grabbers would last longer. See? We aim to please around here.
I read the whole thing this time.

I'm at 49k miles and was at the dealership recently. He said my Grabbers had 7/32 of tread left. I think they'll last to 75k or more. Overall they're nice tires but noisy. I've seen a few suggestions mentioning Falken Wildpeak so I'll probably buy them.

Too short….

General AT tires are not the best for longevity to be honest. Most stock tires are not. I got 45 out of my stockers. I drive a little spirited at times and left a few small marks on the pavement. But I was still disappointed. I had some general HT tires before and got less than 40k on them.

What's the metric for toast? We talking anything under 3/32 of depth with a gauge or when you think they're toast?

I've rarely exceeded the warranty coverage of a tire, if it says it's good for 60k they're usually worn around 60k, maybe 55k maybe 58k maybe 63k but to claim you're routinely getting an extra 20k beyond the expectation? LOL

Maybe with your grandma's Buick and her behind the wheel. Unless your idea of worn out is when you start seeing steel through the rubber. That's wild man ???

I only planned to get 50k out of mine, so if I get more, I'll be very satisfied. I thought that was what the manufacturer said the anticipated life would be.

Just replaced my Ranger for a Toyota Tundra since the transmission was still giving me issues after the 3rd time being repaired... It was also becoming too small for my needs and could not keep up anymore.

As for tires, it was a weird situation. I got two sidewall flats, one in the front and the other in the rear at the same time when I had 3/32nd left on the tires. My lease had tire coverage so the dealer replaced those two tires for free. I then had them remount my spare on one of the rims and bought another grabber for the last rim. I ended up with 4 brand new tires for the price of one. That was last summer and I still burned trough 6/32 in 9 months.

I ended up going with Cooper Discoverer Rugged Trek in E load for my Tundra. That's what I was going to buy for my Ranger. I should receive them shortly, can't wait to try them on.

So instead of a failing Transmission you wanted the Engine to explode randomly instead of?!

Well that depends on what model year he got?

Hahaha yup! At least Toyota is trying to actually fix it but I digress. I got a 2022 SR5 TRD Off-Road Crewmax long bed. Quite happy with it so far.

If you look at current half-ton trucks, you have options, but they all have major problems:
  • Ford F150: Same transmission problems as the Ranger on top of new recalls coming out every other day. The QC is down year over year and every single of my cousins that bought one in the past 3 years are having issues with their trucks.
  • GMC/Chevy: Would you like your lifter problems in the 5.3 or the 6.2 variant? They are also having issues with the transmission for all engine types. They also have a lot of electrical problems with the newer gens with lights not turning on or off, gauge cluster randomly resets or freezes and too short wiring that rubs agaisnt the frame or engine and end up shorting.
  • Ram: Do I need to say more? ;) Same front end problems and electronic problems they always had combine with the new one being out of my price range. The 5.7 Hemi being one of the thirstiest engine out there, with known problems that show up at low millage in cold climates.
  • Toyota: Engine issue covered by a recall, the rest seems OK with some rattles in the interior and the driver seat trim keeps cracking.
  • Nissan: Stopped selling trucks in Canada back in 2021. Good quality, but not a lot available on the used market that were not beat to death. It would have had to be an XD variant to get the crewcab and the 6.5 bed and those are even rarer where I am.
I picked the problems I wanted to deal with and had the most confidence in the company solving. Seems like the days of good reliable trucks are either coming to an end or are in a rough patch.
