Owned a 19 ranger. Now own new Tacoma.
They both feel the same on full throttle acceleration. The ranger sucked in every way so i got rid of it. Love my new truck, it runs and drives great, unlike the ranger. They are both basically slow, I needed a reliable utility truck, if I want to go fast, I have something else to drive for that.Always cracks me up that guys think a 278hp 4500 lb brick is some kind of rocket ship street racer.
I hope you’re not talkin about this because while it looks awesome, I’m not convinced it’s all that fast.

There must be something else in your stable besides that Taco. Got pics?

I think someone is just mad that they had to pay a lot more for two extra cylinders to get the same power as the 4cyl Ford. So mad they lurk on a 5g Ranger forum waiting for someone to talk crap about a taco to pop in and make fun of both trucks.

Tell us how awesome that thing is when you fire it up and the noise/CEL tells you half your exhaust is on its way to get a crackhead another hit.

Stayed at a hotel a week ago. Tacoma sitting two spots down from me; cats were gone. Mine. No damage at all. I wonder what the backorder is on those things for a yoda now? Love my cat being tucked way up beside the engine (at least unless I want to try and check trans fluid)

Note: I don't hate Toyotas. Almost bought a Rolla GR recently, but the mark up was silly are so are the interest rates - even if you have an 800 credit score. I just don't have the cash to buy one outright. Then a dash of wtf on the mpg from a 3cyl even if that 3 cyl makes 300hp.

What I don't like; Tacomas. Sitting in one felt weird, drove weird, and I swear I was suddenly turning into an asshat when I put my hands on the wheel. I also got an overwhelming urge to add "my truck is wide lights" to a midsize. I had to get out and head over to the Ford dealership. If it wasn't for the Ranger; I would drive a Frontier over a Taco any day.

300 hp out of a 3 cyl motor? That’s something. I bought a Smart fourtwo diesel for fun when they were launched in Canada (spent a lot of time in Europe on business and they were fun). It had the tiniest 3 cyl diesel and it only put out 40 hp. It would do 0 to 60…….in a tail wind. Actually an embarrassing 23-24 seconds. My lawn tractor had better acceleration.

?

I’m pretty sure I could have put it in the back of my ‘01 Ranger.

Motor trend has it at a highish 13 in the 1/4. The mpg is something like 21/28.. a bit ew for a 1.6. But the ability to shift power bias front and rear seems like fun. That and it's a corolla for well over 40k before ADM.....

Wow - that’s a lot of money for not a pickup truck.

Just today driving down the highway minding my OWN business and what do I see… Hmmm it’s a 2023 Taco in the breakdown lane, 4 ways on and the hood up. Smoke is a rising… I laughed and continued down the road, then the song Radar Love comes over the radio. I laughed again, it was a good day!

Had one pass me the other day. Was lifted with larger tires. Had a loud exhaust. Funny part was, at 70 mph it wouldn't stay in high gear. You could hear the exhaust change every time it down shifted and back up. Which after four or five miles got annoying for me to listen to. Had to really suck inside, but then he was driving a toyota so there's that.
I've seen one near me that does the same thing! Guy has it all decked out. It is actually a nice looking truck. Lift and big tires along with all his other add ons. Loud exhaust. And he dogs it. I laugh everytime on the highway. It's just as you said. That POS will not stay in high gear. So funny.

There was one day I was merging onto the highway and saw him coming up right behind me, moving into the left lane as if he was going to pass me. Yea, I punched it. And yea I did laugh out loud. Literally. Immature on my part? Pretty much. Did I enjoy it? Oh hell yes!

He didn't just get 2 extra cylinders... he also got that "first man in the bobsled" seating position!

I never thought of it like that but... that is pretty spot on for the yota. I really like how I fit in the Ranger at 6'2". If I didn't need to add the steps for the kids it would be super easy to get in and out of as well. Steps just sort of bump the back of my leg is all.

Be careful, Karma is a B**TcH. I hope your 10R80 doesn't leave you sitting in the breakdown lane one day. ;). Unfortunately our Rangers aren't bullet proof either.

I cannot claim that seating description, though I wish that I could! Someone here on the forum, don't remember who, used that. As soon as I read it that was it. Engrained in my mind.

There is simply no better way to describe sitting in a Taco.

Wow. I never thought much about tacos until I joined this forum. After a lifetime working in a GM plant, I just kinda check the N/A box when it comes to considering Toyota lol but you folks have really enlightened me about the whole cult of personality surrounding those things.

I've never been one to tolerate fanbois either so I do tend to smile a bit when I hear someone have problems with the almighty and undeniable quality in a marvel of bland styling.

I mean sure I like to support my brand of choice, but when it shits the bed I man up, admit it, pay the price and move forward.
