I read on the internet, because I posted it, that adding CBD oil, because CBD products cure all ailments, to the crankcase will give a 5mpg boost.

Oh, let’s not forget a quart of SLICK-50.

I have posted this in a different thread. I have a 19 XL STX FX 4x4 stock factory everything except for a soft roll up bed cover. Always a little extra weight in the bed from just normal gear. I just made a road trip of 819 miles driving in Tow Mode only (which is all I use). Two adults. The return trip had a few hundred extra pounds of cargo. Trip hwy speed was at cruise of 70 mph when possible. Like any trip all type of speed was the normal. Hand calculated I averaged 23.5 lot better than my old 92 F250 4x4 at 10 mpg no matter what. :like: I bought it to use it. When I want better mileage I drive our Honda CR V.

Simple.. ?

Tailgate semi's when driving on the freeway. Stay back about 10-20' and easily get up to 20% improvement in fuel mileage.
I remember Myth Busters said 50' is best because at that distance you still get mpg improvements you aren't tailgating, but most importantly, you are not constantly going on the throttle then off the throttle to maintain the distance. With 50' there is more buffer room to help smooth out your pedals.

Not being a dick here.
Drive the speed limit and don't let it sit for an hour to melt the snow off it or let it cool off like my yuppie neighbors do with their cars.
That's all I do and get 24 - 25 mpg per tank with regular gas.
I put a cover on the bed and can't help to think it helps.
I'm on the fence with the on off switch. I need to try in with a full tank and see if there is difference.

some one may have said this already but take everything out of the truck you do not really need. the weight adds up to miles per gallon eventually. tire pressure and good fuel, clean filters, good route choice. tune helped me a little bit. I average 21.5 now with mixed on off road city highway. i also keep a lot of extra stuff in the truck like tools and recovery gear and e rated tires, 2 full spares.

All these little things are pointless. You wanna deal with gas prices for cheap pick up a used motorcycle or scooter and get 50-100mpg. I commuted on a motorcycle throughout the whole (last) recession when gas prices skyrocketed. Had a rain suit and everything and the F150 sat in the driveway unless I needed it.

I avoid following big trucks. I was a safe distance behind one once an a tire blew an the tread that flew off hit the headlight of my van. The only damage was the halogen bulb element blew an I had to remove a black scuff mark. When on a motorcycle I stay WAY away. I'm usually travelling faster than the do anyway but if I pass one I do it quickly.

A moped or scooter will get over a hundred mpg but it's hard to run to the grocery store on one.

I usually drive fairly conservatively. As one mentioned, the less you use the brakes the better, so I anticipate curves and stops to avoid the brake the best I can. My gauge and hand calculations are usually about 1MPG off, sometimes they're dead on. I have been averaging 24 to 26 MPG since summer fuel blend came out.
I keep a spreadsheet with every fill up, mileage, notes and tire mileage. Keeping an eye on your mileage is a good idea whether you care about what you're getting or not. As soon as you notice something out of the ordinary you can address it up front.

some information that might help

( 100,000 miles / 20 mpg ) * $4.00 = $20,000 in fuel
vs
( 100,000 miles / 22 mpg ) * $4.00 = $18,181 in fuel

Nearly $2000 saved over 100k miles.
How much of a headache and being cautious about your driving are you willing to put up with for $2000 over (maybe) 8 years to reach 100k ? That is less than $1 a day saved.

This is also why just going out and buying an EV is dumb if you are looking to save money. You would need to drive a ranger at 20mpg for 300,000 miles (which would be 24 years if you drive the average amount) before you would spend the price of a new EV (assuming 60k+)

You should drive efficiently, and that is important to me, but looking at the math, it doesn't make much of a difference overall if its only a minor bump in gas mileage.
