I just picked up the Ranger for the first trip to dealer for fuel dilution of 4.3%. I changed it myself for the first time after 860 miles and the oil reeked of gas smell.
I opened a Ford Customer Complaint before taking it in per suggestion of Forum, which was a great suggestion.
I got it back today and they reported "no abnormal odors detected from oil and the level (1,000 miles since I changed it) is correct. Performed EEC diag. No DTC's stored in PCM. Fuel trims are normal. Performed fuel pressure leak down and no loss detected. No SSM's or TSB's found at this time. No repairs are necessary at this time."
So, at this time (1900 miles) I don't have a rising oil level problem, just the fuel dilution noted after my first change at 860 miles. Interestingly, the dealer called Ford to report their findings under the complaint number I gave them, only told the case was closed!
Any thoughts, suggestions??
Thanks!

Well I just got my results back from Blackstone Lab. Had dealer change oil at 2500 miles and at just over7500 I changed it. It smelled like fuel. 4% fuel in oil and viscosity was reduced. This sucks, hate to think what it would have looked like if had went 10,000 miles on original oil. I like this truck but thinking maybe I should have kept my trouble free Tacoma. They want to check it again in 4000 miles. If it doesn’t improve I’ll be getting rid of it before warranty expires.

Alex, that is a GREAT idea! I am willing to start compiling this database if anyone is willing to give me the information mentioned. I can receive the information via "conversation" if people would rather reply off-thread? I could then compile all this information and get it back to all the respondents so we could collectively have a larger voice with Ford.
Any takers?

Here's my report. I drive 42 miles round trip to work so oil gets hot and right before the sample was taken I drove 350 miles to the coast and back. Approximately 1300 miles since oil change and oil level rising again. When I changed it I put in 6 quarts of Mobil 1 5w30. It was a little below the full mark on dipstick, now it's at 1/8 of a inch above full. I'm not in the mood for a bunch of dealer BS run around. I'll see what they say.

Scott,

Thanks for the reply. I have started a Google spreadsheet to compile the specific information for each owner. So far I have two entries (you and me) in the spreadsheet. I am hoping to get MANY more owners willing to respond so we can have a much larger voice to "share" with Ford regarding this most frustrating situation. If we can get more people to respond, I am sure we will have a better chance of them taking us seriously. Thanks again and PLEASE more people respond as well.
Peace,
Joe

There was a similar thread a while back. Someone asked that everyone with proof of a fuel dilution issue(black stone lab report) post in a single thread.

I will search and see if I can locate anyone who responded.

I have only seen it go down when my trips were over 90 miles one way. And the two trips I took and seen it, the weather was above 70 deg out. I was doing weekend trip to a local racetrack was 44 miles one way and didn't seem to help but stayed stable. When it first started before the HPFP change it was going up no matter what. Only since the last oil change has it been kinda stable. Got it schedualed for a oil change tomorrow. So I will get to see if it goes back up or stays stable.
Do you have any Blackstone reports to share?
Thanks,
Joe

Yes, I have also found out that Ford Customer Service has closed my case, even though I still have an ongoing service ticket with the dealership. I never received any paperwork from the last time my truck was at the dealer for 2 weeks. I was told I would not get any paperwork while it was still an open ticket. I talked to a Ford Customer Service Supervisor and they told me they would reopen the case when I go back in for the dealership to finish the warranty service, after I get to 5000 miles on this oil change. This kind of pissed me off, they closed my case while it is still on-going?
They closed my case as well. The dealer called them to report their findings and they couldn't update the case because it had been closed!!

I tried numerous times, whether it was the dealership, Ford Customer Service, or the Ford Field Service Engineer, after being told it was safe to drive my vehicle and ignore the rising oil level, they absolutely would not put that in writing, or on the service ticket, or even in an email. Both the dealership and Ford Customer service both deflected to the decision as coming from the Ford Field Service Engineer, but I was not allowed to have any direst contact with the person. Ford Customer Service went as far to say that the dealership violated policy by giving me a copy of an email they received from the Field Engineer. So, the person making all the decisions on what service is to be done on my truck for this issue, and is the one directing me to drive it without even checking the oil level, and that it is safe to do so, is a person I am not allowed to have any contact with. Sounds like they have their bases covered.
Unbelievable!!!

FWIW - I had a similar experience; nice but not of much help when it came to action at the dealership (which were helpful on their end).

Customer care eventually told me it wasn’t truly their issue, and to call the warranty folks to open a case. That seems to have helped more; they authorized the dealership to start systematically assessing the problem, under warranty coverages.

Very helpful information, thanks!

I just opened a Warranty Claim with Ford. After explaining the problem to them, they asked "what would you like us to do"" I said I would like Ford to give guidance to the dealership to begin systematically investigating the problem. He said ok and he said this would be escalated to local General Manager and Ford would likely send out an Engineer or Technician as well. He said I would be contacted within 24 hours for next steps. We shall see.

I also just filed a complaint with NHTSA and I would encourage all impacted owners to do the same. It only takes a few minutes and we need to be heard!

So far I have 5 entries in my spreadsheet from owners who were willing to share their Blackstone report. I am compiling a spreadsheet of people who have documented fuel in their oil. If you also have higher than normal readings on your report please consider sharing the results with me, and I will then share it with everyone who responds. Hopefully, with a unified database like this it will allow us to get Fords attention and take this situation seriously. Individually, they are more likely to blow us off. However, with everyones input in a single unified document, they will be more likely to take us seriously.
Thanks in advance!
Joe

Both my completed blackstone reports(first was delivered empty). Holding off till I get a third run on my oil to the Lab before I start screaming.
