Where did you get the shackles and was it hard to trade out the hooks for the shackles?
Rough Country...same bolts were reused...maybe 15 minutes?

Thanks

Can they be installed on factory bumpers or only aftermarket bumpers?
I have factory bumper...the old hooks are removed and Rough Country bolted on...straight replacement...

I think the red tow hooks look good, that's the reason I added them. I am not trying to please anyone but me, nor joining any club regardless of how cool the kids are.
I'm not debating they look good. I just only see red being used. Question was more about why that color. Figured by now they would be purple, orange, yellow, match the truck, something like that.

They come in all colors now that tow hooks are trendy...but it started out red and still is in motorsport racing...

Ahhh, misunderstood the question. Carry on.

Lol - I know why I asked the question. I read this on the Rough Country site:
”
NOTES - IMPORTANT
  • Designed to accommodate shackles with 7/8in size threaded pins
  • Only works with aftermarket bumpers that are designed to retain factory tow hooks
i took the second point that it only works with aftermarket bumpers, rereading it now, I understand it to say, it works with factory bumpers and only aftermarket bumpers that are designed to retain factory tow hooks.

How did you choose the red shackles?

Edit: I guess you just buy the red shackles separately.

I bought the shackles seperately from Ebay...the ones I got are secured with a pin so they don't need to be over tightened which can lead to frustration when you need to remove them to get a tow rope on...

I don't recommend coating them with anything less than powder coat...paint will not hold up...

I posted this in the General - What did you do to your Ranger today - and probably should have put it here (duh)....anyways, I changed out my tow hooks to the Ford Performance red hooks and I’m happy with the look.
