Front camera malfunction after windshield replaced

I just had my windshield replaced by safelite. The pre-collision and front camera malfunction warning pops up now. Is this something I will have to have safelite fix again, or will it reset on its own. The drove it to calibrate it, but thats all I know.

I would just call Safeliite in the morning. I'm sure they'll send someone back out to check it and recalibrate it for you.

Does the replacement window have the calibration line that goes directly in front of the camera?

Have you opened the cover and made sure the camera is properly seated?

Once you have this error, it will not auto correct itself. You need to run the calibration process. It can be done through Forscan. After starting the calibration process in Forscan, you have to drive it for a few miles on a road with clear lines on each side.

If your new window does have the calibration line (as it should) and the camera was always properly seated, my guess is that the camera sits ever so slightly different to the calibration line than it did with the old window. The calibration process will correct it.

Let me know if you have questions, I had to do the calibration because I accidentally nudged my front camera slightly when I opened the cover without realizing.

Yea it’s a heating element and not a “calibration line.”

When I was getting ready to turn my leased Explorer back in so I could pick up my Ranger last month, I called Safelite about replacing the windshield. When I told them it had the sensors for automatic braking, etc., the price went up by about $300 for "calibration". I thought that seemed a bit much, but if you paid for them to replace that windshield and they knew that it had those features, I'd be calling them immediately.

My local Ford Dealer recommended a window guy. At the time he was replacing a windshield on their lot. He needed the VIN to order the glass. The dealer said they haven't been recalibrating after windshield replacements and haven't had any problems. He ordered the glass and replaced it in a few days at my home. I never had it calibrated and it's working fine.
I tend to go through windshields every few years. I was planning on going with Safelite next time and a calibration. I don't have a problem paying for qualifty if it's there. This thread is having me question if Safelite has the premium value over Bob's autoglass.

FWIW when my wife's CX-5's windshield was replaced about 5 years ago all this tech was new. I called the dealership, asked about recalibration, and was told with their setup the car will tell you if it's needed. Her system has worked flawlesy since then.

BTW if driving is indeed part of the recalibration process as said above there's no way in hell some glass tech is driving my truck.

I have glass coverage here and there's no deductible on it. I'm glad too as I had to use it on a rental car 2 years ago. On our way back from CO literally 2 exits away from getting home I had a huge rock bounce up and shatter the windshield. I thought great I used my Discover card so I'm covered. Wrong, when I called they said they took that benefit away 18 months prior and it was in their new terms of service....Who the heck reads those? Luckily my truck insurance picked it up and dealt with Budget rental and it cost me nothing.
