To revive this conversation. I too was looking for a solution. I ordered the XL with the small screen so this may or may not be something 8" screen guys want to do, but I found this Sony head unit https://electronics.sony.com/audio/car-marine-audio/mobile-es-series/p/xav9500es

It is pricey but may kill two birds with one stone for me #1 it has 3 wired camera inputs that you can pull up at any time and #2 it has wireless carplay/Android auto which will allow me to pull up my Gaia GPS on the screen meaning I don't have to spend for a tablet and mount. I still haven't seen much on how well Gaia GPS works on carplay/Android is my only concern.

I use Gaia on Apple carplay in my XLT, works pretty well, not all options and settings are on screen but still available on you phone screen. My phone is mounted front and center so easy to select something that isn't yet available on the head unit. I set my route on the phone and then bring up carplay, works well.

I had a front camera on my 17 Edge which displayed on the screen, it had (2) views wide and regular and it also had a little nozzle to spray it clean, surprising it not available on the Ranger, I guess Ford just wants to feed us new goodies each year to keep us coming back......

That's the only thing I was thinking about. The rear camera works when it's in reverse. Obviously we wouldn't want a front camera coming on everytime in D or S.
My old garmin gps has a camera that could be triggered by R or manually turned on. I added it to my Sheriff's ride before cameras became stock equipment. At least i had a GPS screen to look at moving forward. I still have it but it would be nice to integrate it into our sync screen.

I use Gaia regularly and it works quite well, the sync inputs have very limited functionality though so to record tracks and do a lot of stuff you need to use your phone but as far as seeing the map and track, as well as moving it about it works just fine.
