Replace or Repair Front Windshield?

Years ago a friend who worked in the insurance business told me to keep your Comprehensive coverage deductible as low as possible. I kept mine at $50 for a long time but insurance company forced it to $100.
windshields are the number one claim item and the insurance companies want you to have your comp at $500 or higher as the average replacement unit is over $1000 with all the attachments. They would just as soon have you pay for it!

Our policy has a $500 deductible, which is really nothing against what average multi thousand dollar repairs cost now.
But the glass coverage we added has its own $50 deductible, separate from everything else.....so a new windshield only costs me $50 bucks...

Safelite has fixed 6 cracks or chips in my windshield. Free with Gieco. My state doesn’t allow or force free windshield replacements. SC or NC did, FL, and AZ as well. Free was awesome.

Years ago I had a bmw and got a crack. When I called the insurance company they tried to send me to a shop, but I said I wanted it done at the dealer, and they didn't complain. Got it done at the dealer, who kept it overnight so the sealant would cure properly (they said).

The dealer probably called Safelite in.
