Maybe someone who knows more details will chime in, but yeah, the vehicle needs to have the capability to start the engine using an electronic signal and not just the physical ignition switch. The confusion might be whether all Rangers have this fundamental ability. It's possible that they do because they all have auto start-stop, which already requires the vehicle to be able to start itself without any physical user input. The Fordpass part may also require a certain level of electronics, like sync3 or something like that, I don't know. I can certainly believe that the website is not clear about it. From my experience, even the dealer sales people can be uncertain about some of these things - there are a lot of different combinations of features out there.

EDIT: In our own case, we knew the key-fob version was included with one of the tech packages we ordered, but we didn't know that Fordpass would have that capability. We're still glad to have the key-fob version, because we sometimes use it when we're camping or hiking and out of cell phone range, but the Fordpass version is a nice addition.

Yea remote start is a part of package 302A.
If remote start was built in why not included it with them all then?
I hear what you are saying.

My problem is the options I want like remote start, heated seats etc makes the Ranger more expensive than the Colorado. 2800.00 dollars added just for those 302A.

What is weird is package 302a mentions sync not sync 3 and It is a higher package. Certainly confusing.

Thanks for the info I do appreciate you taking the time to help answer a few questions..

Yeah, it's coming back now. It's in 302A, but it's important to note that the remote start that is included in 302A is the key-fob remote start, which requires an upgraded key fob and an extra two-way radio module in the truck. I think the confusion is over which models include the Fordpass version of remote start, which doesn't require the upgraded key fob and extra radio module and might be included in any Ranger that supports Fordpass. Again, I'm not sure about which models might include the Fordpass version of remote start, but I'm pretty sure our XLT would have had the Fordpass version even if we didn't order 302A.

It's a little confusing, but in summary, the Fordpass version of remote start doesn't seem to require the key-fob version, but I'm not 100% sure which trim levels it applies to.

Yep, the package bundling can be frustrating. It worked out OK for us, we got mostly what we wanted and not too much stuff that we didn't want, but that's not always the case. We were kind of lucky I guess - when our son bought the Volt, he wanted adaptive cruise control, but was was annoyed that he would have to spend an extra $4000 for the Premium model to be able to get it, and would then have a bunch of other stuff he didn't care about, so he just went without it. He didn't want to spend almost $5000 to get adaptive cruise :/

Ok so you do need remote start option on the Ranger to use the app remote start..
Some posts said the app would without it having remote start on the truck...
I could not find out info either way. Fords website on it is not the greatest.

That is important for me especially on those 20 below days especially at work. I need to be able to start my vehicle from my desk.

I know allot of people do not care about remote start or heated seats but here it can be important.
Those capless gas tanks are so nice too in the cold when it is snowing, windy and zero out.
I have an XL STX

I do not have remote start. Fordpass stsrts the truck.

Another reason i did not want remote start. Fordpass is better. Remote start never worked from my desk in orther vehicles.....to far away.

I’ve finally been using Fordpass more lately and it’s great. I carpool to work so when I get a few minutes away from my truck I start it up and it’s ready to go when I get there, nice and warm. I didn’t want to get into a habit of using it during the first year because I figured it’d probably be expensive, no one seemed to know what it was going to cost. Now that it’s going to be free I’m using it daily!

That seems to settle it, then. If the XL trim level supports the Fordpass version of remote start, then essentially all Rangers, at least starting with the XL STX, are Fordpass compatible and support remote start through Fordpass.

Considering it uses wireless networks I think it functions fairly well. I'm happy to see indefinite support, especially with the winter months coming up.
