My salesman just told me Ford is pretty much done taking 2022 Ranger orders. If you want one you better get your order in now. The deadline is Apr. 29. Dealers can still order for their lots, but no more retail orders.

It might be a long time until the 2023 order bank opens. I'm guessing with the assembly line being shared with the Bronco they are just out of capacity to build any more retail orders this year. They probably have enough customer and dealer stock orders to take them until next fall.

MAP plant is pushing to get an estimated 80,000 backlogged reservation holder's Bronco orders built. So my guess the ratio of Broncos to Rangers being built is increased on the Bronco side. They stopped all new Bronco orders on 3-8-22 until the MY23 ordering begins.

The following was posted yesterday on the Blue Oval Forums, and lines up with what your salesmen told you. Dealers will still be able to enter orders for dealer stock. The longer my '22 Tremor is held up, the more I will lean towards waiting for a '23, even though it will be a long ass wait for the '23:

INFORMATION
2022 Model Year Expedition & Ranger - Important Retail Order Bank Update

ACTION REQUESTED
Inform your teams that the final day to submit new customer retail orders for 2022 Model Year Expedition and Ranger is April 29, 2022

SUMMARY
Expedition and Ranger continue to experience high customer demand, as the daily rate of retail orders has significantly increased over the past several months. As such, we are making the decision to pause and no longer accept new 2022 Model Year Expedition and Ranger retail orders after April 29, 2022 to focus on existing orders.

After April 29, 2022 and for the remainder of the 2022 model year, dealers will continue to be able to submit orders for Expedition and Ranger dealer stock inventory and if selected for scheduling within existing commodity constraints, customers will be able to purchase these vehicles from dealers upon arrival.

We will start retail ordering for the 2023 Model Year Expedition and Ranger later this year.

KEY DATES
  • April 29, 2022: Dealers have until 10pm EDTto submit new 2022 Expedition & Ranger retail orders
    • WBDO/CONCEPs will no longer accept new Retail Orders after this date and time
  • May 5, 2022: Dealers must complete the Retail Order Verification Process by 10pm EDT for new retail orders to be considered for 2022 Model Year Expedition & Ranger scheduling
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
  • We will continue to prioritize existing verified retail orders for 2022 Model Year Expedition & Ranger that have been submitted prior to or on April 29, 2022, pending specific supply/commodity availability
    • WBDO will allow dealers to modify specs on existing retail orders after April 29, 2022
      • Body and PEP codes cannot be changed
  • 2022 Model Year Expedition & Ranger dealer stock inventory ordering will remain open after April 29, 2022
  • New customer retail orders will once again be accepted with the opening of the 2023 Model Year Expedition & Ranger order banks later this year
  • More information about 2023 Model Year Expedition & Ranger will be shared at a later date

so this is how they plan on doing this new "nothing in stock" model for buying new vehicles?

Doesn't mean they will get anything in a reasonable amount of time. My boss put in an order for a F150 in December. The dealership told him roughly 6 weeks for delivery. He mentioned that they finally assigned a VIN number to his order yesterday..

Well if it's just dealer stock they might actually get a few on the lot to sell, however just imagine the mark-up some dealers will put on these.

So by model year 2023, do we think they mean ordering for the new 6g ranger opens end of 2022, or will they split production between 2023 5g rangers and 2023 6g rangers?

I can confirm the 9th is the last day.

I'm also wondering what this means for the special splash edition models that were supposed to drop later in the year. I guess those are either canceled or only able to be ordered for dealer retail?

They will probably still make them, but for dealer stock only.
