Yeah but who would hear it the rv is moving and even if its the horn at cruising speeds you wont hear it

Fordpass notification?

I don't know. Seems like a good idea. At this point it would only be a software change I'd bet as the hardware to do so is already there.

That would be ideal fordpass already notifies us of other issues like the radar being blocked by mud lol

I know society today has a it's not my fault mindset but at some point the person driving the 10-30,000 lb vehicle on the road with other people needs to take responsibility for knowing what is going on with and around their vehicle .

I don't know what the difference is when 4 wheel on the ground tow (neutral tow) is set up properly and you leave it in park versus neutral, but clearly Ford says the TC and transmission with must be in Neutral throughout.

My brain tells me with the transfer case in Neutral there should be no functional difference from the transmission's standpoint whether it is in Park or Neutral as with the transfer case in Neutral, the transmission is disconnected from both sets of potential drive wheels regardless.

Perhaps if the transmission is set to Park, the TC software commands the TC servo out of Neutral?

I might see with my scan tool if I can see the TC Neutral status when the transmission is in Neutral versus Park.

So I went out and played with my Neutral Tow setup and while following the directions explicitly, I did get into Neutral Tow mode easily (TC in Neutral, I could hear the transfer case shift during the process).

When first setting up the Neutral Tow, the menu screens that appear early on say "Neutral Tow Engaged Leave transmission in Neutral", but the word Neutral is only visible if you use the arrow keys to scroll down to the next page. It is weird as there seems to be a line available on the first page to accommodate Neutral. In other pages the whole message is displayed (telling you to leave the transmission in Neutral). Having "Neutral" on the next page in a few of the screens is suboptimal as reminders go.

After I got it setup in Neutral Tow, if I shifted to Park the Neutral Tow engaged message never leaves the screen with it in Park.

In both cases when Neutral Tow is setup, whether my transmission was in Neutral or Park, all four wheel are free wheeling (the truck rolls backward in my slight incline garage, regardless of the Neutral or Park selection on the transmission). It would be really interesting to know why Ford needs it in Neutral versus Park, once Neutral Tow is set.

Has anyone else had Ford deny a warranty that was active?
YES. That is the normal method to get rid of the pesky customers.
It is normal business practice for the Ford group worldwide to also hold the small dealer accountable (they advance the costs) and, in case of doubt, to let the granted guarantee work…

As far as I know you cannot flat tow a 2wd ranger or any other 2wd ford vehicle.
You can generally flat tow anything with a manual transmission, and anything that offers a neutral position on the transfer case. Old rangers had a “n” position on the 4wd selector, none of this flat tow mode bullshit.

Hi Benny,

Had this happen last evening. Couple in huge 45 ft long motorhome towing a full size Chevy 4x4 pickup. Did not follow directions and got stuck in a sharp corner. Guy did not know what to do and wife and he started fighting. I finally got the guy to disconnect the truck, but he could not get the Chevy out of neutral tow. big mess for an hour..Couple bought motorhome and truck, had someone hook it up for them. Then headed out on their adventures totally clueless.

Best,
Phil

This is what I would imagine a trip like this being like for me, except add in back pain and screaming children. I’ll leave this to the pros like you, Phil!

Yep , see it all too often. The son-in-law and daughter have a 28 ' RV and he drives his own over the road semi for a living. We've seen many such instances over the years :(

Twice I've been blocked on narrow mtn roads - dirt roads where huge motor homes went sideways and blocked the road, once the wheels hanging over the embankment and another time the motor home almost tipped over, on one incident wreckers were onsite and they told me it would be 4 hrs before they had the road cleared, had to detour hours to get to where I was going, can't understand why people would even take those behemoths on narrow curvy mtn roads.
