Semantics, I was trying to say alot in as little as possible with only minutes online, but you get my point.
I disagree about that being semantics, what you wrote and what you now say you intended are different. I didn't get your point; it was written wrong and I'm not going to assume you meant from purchase when that is not what you wrote.

Ford Performance states 91 is the minimum octane required to run their tune. When you play games with spark knock on turbocharged engines, you can often end up getting the short end of the stick.
Ok, understood that can be why I don't see the information elsewhere, in that it's just not healthy for the engine to do it. Thank you.

I called Ford, I asked for a clarification on the warranty, I kid you not... he goes "it's complicated" he put me on hold, he came back on and said "the Ford tune is just like any other aftermarket tune, except we honor the warranty for 36/36, after that if it is determined that the tune caused a failure Ford can deny the claim" I ask "have any claims been denied?" he says "the Ford tune is very conservative we have not had any issues with it"

So basically after 36/36 you may as well have a tune from anybody, but the Ford one is conservative, so I'm hoping when I do have a failure beyond basic warranty it's handled just like another failure.

I think it would have to be a unusual failure for them to even go looking and check the key counts, they reset when a tune is added or removed, that's how they catch a lot of tunes, at the Ford dealer I used to work at a factory rep came through, there were 3 diesels in for coolant loss, he plugged in and voided the warranty on the spot, the dealer is at the base of a big hill called the Grapevine, the TTY head bolts stretch and the heads pick up under boost, but not with a stock tune, they all had single digit key counts, the owners must have returned the tune to stock as it was being towed in.

As stated before, it also depends on the warranties you got with purchase. The dealer I bought mine from included a lifetime powertrain from a 3rd party. It was confirmed with that 3rd party by the dealer and myself that a tune sold by Ford and installed at the Ford dealership would not impact my warranty at all. I'm about sure that if they can pin a failure on the tune, they would attempt to void the warranty, but at least it's not an automatic void of the warranty. Any other tune automatically voids that 3rd party warranty based on the terms of the contract.

Just got my Ford Performance tune installed this morning.

Consistent with most everyone's experience, it now runs nice and smooth with far better shift points. Not sure I've felt any massive torque increase yet, but I wasn't jumping on it much either. But for sure the smoothness and better shift points alone are well worth the investment.

Folks,

My last Ranger had a stage 2 tune from Gearhead on it. For a variety of reasons, this time around, I went with the Ford Performance tune. Purchased the kit from Levittown Ford with a discount coupon for just over $700 shipped to my door.

According to Ford Performance, the kit has an additional 3yr/36000mi warranty if it is installed by a Ford dealer or an ASE Certified/Red Seal Certified technician (I need to submit the paperwork on Monday) By trade, I am a heavy equipment field mechanic with over 12yrs of field experience. With certain exceptions, I don't pay people to do things on my vehicles that I know how to do - especially installing a calibration update that takes less than 30min. So, to retain the Ford Performance warranty, I took the ASE G1 (maintenance and light repair) exam on Saturday and passed - I already fulfilled the work requirement. So, as soon as my ASE credentials became official later that day, I installed the tune ?

Current vehicle modifications:
Magnaflow 12577 muffler in place of OEM muffler
Mishimoto hot/cold side piping kit
Turbosmart plumb-back BOV
K&N air filter (part of the Ford kit)

Initial impressions: the power increase is very noticable and smooth. The improved shift strategy is well refined - in my opinion, the truck should have come with this shift strategy from the factory. The power delivery off the line is excellent and not abrupt.

I have only logged 20+ miles with the FP tune installed, but thus far, I'm enjoying it. Is it the most powerful tune out there - no. However, it is smooth, powerful, and well refined. Exactly what I wanted.

The install process is straightforward with easy to follow directions.

If you're looking for a solid power increase and an excellent shift strategy, this tune accomplishes both.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

When you get a chance, I would be very interested in your mileage difference before and after the new firmware.

I don't give flip about increasing power, but I would love a better transmission shift point strategy. At times the engine lugs down to 1,100 rpm before shifting down to a lower gear. That is not good for the transmission or the engine. An engine miss or falter under load at that low RPM reverberates throughout the drive train.

Let me speak plainly... IMO, The stock shift pattern SUCKS!

This is an old post but that may give a better review. I am not looking for a big power boost but just an improved shift schedule. I am looking for something between regular and sport mode. I drive a lot of twisty mountain roads and mine feels like it is usually in the wrong gear and hunting to find it coming out of corners to straighter sections. Similar around town. Will this fix or improve the situation and what is the overall impact to fuel mileage?

I drove 100 miles yesterday....from sea level to 3600 ft - back and forth. The tune is everything I had hoped for with this kit. I still feel the Ranger should have it this way coming from the factory, but I can absolutely assure you, the tune dramatically improves shift and revs so that now when on hills, it always feels like it's in the right gear when you go to accelerate and it does it amazingly smoothly too boot. I am quite pleased and it literally drives like a different truck. ECU tunes are typically better than any exhaust you can put on your vehicle as well.

Good luck.

P.S. I stopped using "S" mode with this tune. ?
