Thanks for the clarification. I heard that on the radio, but they didn't say which Rangers they applied to. I kept thinking, didn't they deal with that like 10 years ago? It makes sense that they are reissuing an alert for a lot of older models. I asked my Ford Service department about my 2021 model, and they said it wasn't in the Vins that was recalled.

Well. Too bad the friend who I sold my '04 Ranger to about 8 years ago isn't speaking to me anymore. Otherwise I'd let him know.

Hopefully Ford got an updated list from the PA DMV

I find it incredible that my 2005 Ranger airbags have been replaced twice already under recalls, and they want to change them again. What are the odds that they will get it right this time around?

Fortunately my mustang has the airbag replacement on the carfax report.

I have been getting letters and e-mails for the 2012 Mustang GT that I traded in to a Ford dealer in 2015. I guess nobody follows up on this stuff.

The recall replaces the old inflator with the exact same product. A new inflator will never be developed and approved for these vehicles. The inflators are good when brand new but the lifespan reduces dramatically due to environmental factors, hence the recurring recall notices. An entire segment of Takata still exists purely to manufacture inflators until the recall business is done.

It's a pain in the ass, but just keep getting the recall done when you get the notice.

Uhh yeah
I was addressing his comments about "getting it right" this time. He is expecting the recall to fix the airbag problem, but it just replaces the old inflator with a younger one that will also have to be replaced.

So if I had mine replaced 6 years ago, I'll need to do it again? Is this documented

This sucks. Ford / Takata are simply replacing a defective air bag with another defective airbag.

Both need to STEP UP and fix the problem.

I may simply unplug / remove both airbags and take my chances.

And YaBoiNewton. I appreciate your explanation. I had no idea what Ford / Takata were doing.

Thanks

Well it all comes back to Takata saving money by substituting cheaper Ammonium Nitrate as a propellant instead of the stable but more expensive Tetrazole, Sodium Azide, or Guanadine nitrate used by Autoliv or TRW airbags. The reason given was that Sodium Azide is more toxic, but in reality how many times are you going to be exposed in a lifetime. I saw a documentary about it where some of the engineers involved quit over the decision as they knew of the dangers, and wanted no part of it, and the likely outcome.

Yup had those Takata shrapnel airbags replaced on both my Mustang GT's, glad I did, because sad to say they were used
