I don’t… I auto-start the truck with my phone app, let it warm up for 5 or so minutes, roll down the driveway, hop out to close the gate, and head to work. We live up in the mountains so my drive is all downhill. I shift down to 5 to control my speed on the way down and let the truck do its thing.

When I’m leaving the shop to come home, I let it warm up for a few minutes and drive it slow to let the engine and transmission get to normal operating temps. By the time I hit the freeway, everything is warmed up and I drive it normally.
I also use the app for afternoon starts. Truck cranks at 2:05 pm Monday thru Friday and by the time I get to it, it has idle down. I basically just idle off community property til I get to the city street and then drive like an old man til I get home.

I don’t put it in Neutral but I go through my pre-flight while my Ranger does its best F-750 impression. All the bluster and chest-puffing usually stops when I shift into Reverse and back out of the garage
I need time to warm up all my gauges, switches, look at all of my cameras and check the lights...

Old farts are never in a hurry...don't ask me how I know...

(S) I never use (D)
The first 1/4 of a mile when its cold out shifts hard then once its warmed up shifts fine the rest of the day
if its below 0F I may sit in (S) for a min or two before taking off ...

I'm the "key in, shift to Drive, drive off" camp. Though, now that it's "cold" out, since you phrased this as a Transmission question, I do creep forward and let the revs build until the first clunky shift of the day is out of the way. I usually get to 2,000 or 2,2000 RPM before the dang thing kicks down.

rrrrrrrrr......RRRRRRRRR......RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR thunk. And away we go 😂

I really believe the whole point of letting it idle a little longer on the first start of the day, and the reason for the issues some are having, is to get that quart to a quart and a half of fluid that people report getting when leaving the transmission drain overnight, back up in the transmission where it belongs and the pressures back up where they need to be. Warming things up is a secondary reason on colder mornings. just like we all need the first cup of JAVA to get going in the morning.

You made my point exactly and I agree 100% and my Ranger is getting ready to roll 149,000 miles with not even a hint of transmission issues or any other issues except the center support bearing noise. I still cannot say one negative word about this truck and it turns five years old this month.

I load up tools and whatever i need for the day. Turn on truck, unlock phone let android auto conect. Put phone on wireless charger (2024 model). Sport mode. Turn off traction control. Set radio. Put it in gear, turn off parking brake, and away we go. Drive slow till temps go up then unleash the turbo.

got to warm up LOL Makes it hard to drive when your knees are knocking together
Reminds me of one of my rides up the chairlift yesterday.

A lady skied beneath us making some orgasmic type of sounds and one of the old guys on the chair said" we know where she puts her hand warmer". Three of us almost fell out of the chair laughing.

Moral of the story, when knees are knocking use hand warmers. :p
