I've been on this forum for a while now getting all kinds of information while I saved my money to buy a Ranger. Finally buying a 2020 XLT FX4 Ranger.

They're offering several Ford ESP Premium plans:
A 3yr-36,000mile for $2800.
A 4yr -48,000mile for $3100.
A 5yr-60,000mile for $3800.
Or a 6yr-75,000mile for $4500.
They offered me a $250 coupon on any of the plans not reflected in the prices above.

I have saved enough cash for the truck but not enough for any of the ESP options.
Should I go into debt to get an ESP or should I skip it? Thank you!

(It was built in 07/20 so it is within the MMS for the blend door unfortunately)

Also make sure they explain if it’s that many miles and years from when you take delivery or from the original time it left a dealership.

I bought a 5 year plan just before my three year plan was up but it simply extends my three years to five - it is not five years on top of the original three.

If those are plans that start from your date of purchase and are in addition to the existing mileage, that would be good for you to know. They do seem high and Granger is nuts about selling ESPs at a great price. You should check them out.

no thanks
how many miles on the used truck?

ESP is a tack onto initial 3 years/36k original WARRANTY

I purchased a 6 year/48k mile ESP on my ’20 early in the game,,,
but i’m only “protected“ till Dec ‘26 = 6 years
so actually, I only ESP’d 3 years and can’t get more

At those prices, I would take my chances.

No, they don't. They add on to the factory warranty.

Don't buy it from the dealership, the dealership just wants to make more money off of you.

Granger will get you a much better price after you leave, even the same day. I would do it, to extend the powertrain coverage if nothing else but I'm kinda biased.

If you want it to cover the blend door you're going to pay some bucks. I believe you need the platinum level ESP plan for that so you're essentially extending "bumper to bumper" coverage and that's not coming cheap.

Depends on if you are getting the 'new' vehicle ESP, which is purchased before the OEM warranty expires, or the 'used' vehicle ESP, which starts after the OEM warranty expired. The 'used' vehicle ESP will be quite higher in price.
At any rate, Grainger beats everyone on price. And for the love of all things holy, DO NOT go with a third party such as Car Shield. They are in hot water with the FTC for denying claims.

Self insure by continuing 'save' into an account for Ranger repair.

Like many have mentioned, Granger is significantly cheaper than what my local dealers wanted to charge for the exact same plan, I saved $1300 over what the dealer I bought my vehicle from was charging and that was supposedly with a 5% loyalty discount.

Definitely get the warranty from Grainger. As you are only about 3K out from the drive train warranty expiring.

As with any warranty you are gambling on something going wrong and praying ? that nothing does.

It only takes one major repair for it to pay for itself; as some people that have had the misfortune of needing to get the transmission and/or the air box replaced can attest. Neither is a cheap repair.

ADD COST HERE !!! :crying:

Well, it is a big decision. I've dealt with it many times, and have come to this conclusion.
If you can replace a tranmission any day of the week by writing a check without missing the $5000+ you don't need an ESP.
Otherwise, a few dollars a month can help you sleep better.
My first new car lost reverse gear on 10th month. (78 malibu) I didn't even know, at 20 years old that I had bought an esp in my $188/mo payment. When I went to get the car after repairs, I was scared to death about writing that check. Service guy told me "completcovered by your esp."
I began to breath again.
I haven't always bought it with new cars but I did on my used 21 ranger. Just in case.
Also, be aware there are options other thank ford that offer esps.
