I have been a follower of this site for the last 18 months since I bought my 2019 XLT. I work in construction for a large company that buys a lot of trucks, and back towards the end of last year we were getting a lot of noise about fleet orders being delayed, due to Covid, and this continued into the new year with chip and parts issues. So In February I explored selling my 2019 and got some good prices, but not good enough to sale (Carvana offered me $26,500). The production issues have continued so I decided to update my quote on March 17th. The offer increased to $28,500, which is exactly what I paid for it out the door (tax and everything) in November of 2019. So I started looking for a 2021 replacement, and they were hard to find as the had just started hitting dealers and did not sit around on the lot for long. I fortunately found one at an awesome dealer that was an upgrade, but for a variety of reasons we could not get the deal completed 9no fault to the dealer, but more with timing the purchase with cash available.
So back to this week, I was able to have the cash available to buy, so I updated my Carvana info and I was stunned to see the price of their offer was now $32,250, which is just insane as that is almost $4000 more than I paid. Understand this is just a XLT 4x2 with 17,000 miles, only options are 301A with the Sport Package. I did add the tow hitch and harness myself. So I reached back out to the dealer I was working with, but the vehicle we had discussed before was sold, as I expected. They did have a similar option they wanted to move, so we settled on a price, and out the door it is $33,250 with all taxes, tag, etc. So short story for a grand total of $1000 out of pocket, I will be getting a 2021 XLT with the following options - 302A, FX2 Package, Running Boards, Towing Package, Splash Guards, and dealer installed Bullet Liner. So I gain heated/power seats, running boards, bed liner, limited slip diff, and 17k fewer miles/18 more months of warranty. I did have to give up my Lightning Blue which I love, for Velocity Blue which is close. I really wanted the Black Appearance package, but this is pretty close.
Very happy to upgrade, I love my Ranger and in 3 years will give to my son when he goes to college. I did find that most dealers are selling 2021 Rangers at MSRP or higher with their "Dealer Upgrades". This may be the only good thing to come out of this pandemic for me. First vehicle I have ever bought I sold for more than I paid, other than a few restoration vehicles.
On another note, I really hate everyone on here who keeps suggesting modifications, my wallet does not appreciate the workout. I have already removed all the upgrades from "Carmen" (Bilstein 5100s all around, LazFit LED bulbs all around, Truxedo Sentry Tonneau cover, Go Rhino running boards and exhaust tip, ATS bug deflector, console tray, bed rug, the all important tailgate damper, and my custom blue CocoMats floor mats.
