Why not just leave the fob in the truck sans battery. You can still start and drive the truck with the fob sitting in the rear drink holder after removing the rubber mat.

So my truck came with the key pad.. its above the door handle.. its cheesey compared to the built in ones ive had on other ford trucks..

Am i reading this right that its just sticky tape with no holes drilled?

Or is the ford aftermarket one the sticky tape version?

Looking for clarification before i go screw it up trying to remove it..

Correct, it’s held on with double sided tape. Depending on how long it’s been there will be how hard to get it off. Dental floss works great for this. Might need to heat it up some with a hair dryer to soften adhesive some before removing it.

Just invest in good quality tape when you reattach it.

So there's no way to really self install these keypads? I want to get one - but I guess I'll wait until my next service appointment and just pay them for the install. I'm sure they'll still charge a full hour of labor even if it takes them 10 minutes.
I would order it from Ford. Then pick it up, and see if they have updated the instructions or put anything about "needs to be programmed by a pro."
If not, which they might not have done yet. May be dealer only notification.
Try it with the instructions in it, then when it doesn't work, walk back in with the youtube video ready to go and get them to do it.? Free of Charge!

Just sticky tape. It is a bit thick compared to the factory one. But whatever, as long as it works at this point was all I wanted.

The factory one isnt slim by any stretch.. its also cheap looking.. i was under the impression they drilled a hole in the door..

So was I. I liked the almost flush one on my Explorer. These definitely are not close to flush.

Yes, some of the factory installed ones on other models do have hard wiring and are also fastened on. Rangers do not have this style or fit. They are Bluetooth only versions. Batteries last about 4 to 5 years in them.

I had no idea that this was the case. My Explorer panel is actually built right into the door and made out of glass. No actually push "buttons"; just more of a 5-button touch panel made of glass. Much nicer. I'm sure I'll get used to it.

But Tim if we had the flush mount like the explorer and F 150 we would have all those swirl marks to polish out  Much happier with the matt finish on the B pillars:like:
