This article predicts that EV sales will hit 17-19% of the market by 2035 and remain flat at that number until at least 2050. This has been my guess, I.e. that EV will assume a minority percentage of market share but perhaps never supplant ICE in market share, at least in most of our lifetimes. Even so, 20-30% is nothing to sneeze at over a long term and explains why Ford and others are investing heavily in it.

I just read on another forum that I am on, a customer of one of the members had his house burn totally down last week. Started in the garage middle of the night. The family escaped with no injury. Burned right through the firewall into the kitchen. The fire department preliminary report says most likely their new EV was the cause. Will know fully after a full investigation report as there also was an older Prius hybrid in the garage.

Retired, work is a four letter word.
I don't even charge my drone or e-bike batteries UN-monitored, and never inside, haven't had a issue in 5 years but better safe. When I get my EV it will charge in the driveway once a week as It will be only for local driving.

My guess is the agency that the article cites has about zero chance of getting this forecast right, on the high or low side. :)

I think it is like 17 states that have gone on record stating they will follow CARB’s mandate eliminating ICE car and truck sales by 2035. I do believe some of those will fold when the wind starts blowing hard, but anyone who thinks practicality will rule the day at the California Air Resources Board, don’t know anything about CARB. That is more than 10% of all auto sales nationwide.

What I find interesting is new gas stations are going up everywhere near me. I can only think of 1 place where someone could charge an EV. I’m sure there are more that I don’t know of but you would think gas stations that are being built would have chargers as well.

I was in a development meeting in Ohio not long ago and the question was asked to a gas station developer why don’t they install EV chargers on site. The answer was that the electric provider puts a surcharge on the meter that essentially adds up to 250k a year in additional expense. Whether an EV is hooked up or not. They basically explained (in ohio at least) that the electric companies want chargers to be installed locally at residential homes because its less stress on the grid and they can charge differently for a residence. :bandit:

The company I work for approach the utility about installing a charging hub at our location. For 2 chargers it was going to be 68K and use company electric supply. No meters to charge employees on the units!
