Ok where's the GM 3800 V6? That's gotta be on the list at #6 at least? Was bulletproof until they tried to make the gaskets cheaper to save $0.10 (typical GM).Nothing wrong with giving credit where credit is due, the Toyota 4.7 is a well designed and engineered V8, no doubt. Not quite on my top 5 list of the best engines (IMO), but on my top 10, for sure, top 5 are:
As you can see, I'm a Ford guy and a retired mechanic/firefighter, I recognize good design and engineering in an engine when I see it (and worked on it as well).
- Ford 240/300 "Big" six
- Ford 260/289/302 small blocks
- Ford 351C
- Chevy small block
- Mopar Slant-Six
It could also come in handy when overlanding....I've been considering make a full length engine shroud myself from a thin gauge metal sheet. Connects from rear of bay to the front of the bay, wide enough to cover the engine but still open on the sides. Then locate some heat resistance material to attach under it and still give plenty of clearance from engine contact.
This. Same.I put one on my 21 XLT. Just looks more complete to me.
Same on being half deaf. I don't think it covers the pump. But, it does help a little with the injector noise. Some say it quiets down the high pressure fuel pump. I dunno as I'm half deaf anyway.
I agree. It does help the noise. Noticed a difference going through the drive thru after putting one on. It didn’t kill the noise but did tame it.This. Same.
