Do you worry about the paint due to the cover being flexible foam? Wonder if it will crack or peel.[/QUOTE]
I'll let you know how this holds up over time.

Nothing wrong with giving credit where credit is due, the Toyota 4.7 is a well designed and engineered V8, no doubt. Not quite on my top 5 list of the best engines (IMO), but on my top 10, for sure, top 5 are:I'd ask you how so, but I fear we'd piss some off for discussing it. Some here seem to think you can't like Toyota's if you're a Ford guy. Strange notion to me.
Think you have something that's pretty similar from the factory.I've been considering make a full length engine shroud myself from a thin gauge metal sheet. Connects from rear of bay to the front of the bay, wide enough to cover the engine but still open on the sides. Then locate some heat resistance material to attach under it and still give plenty of clearance from engine contact.

It's called a hood.
I understand the point of it. Just question how much quieter a sheet metal shroud would be.
People get the engine shroud for it sound dampening capability due to noisy HPFI.
If you wanted to fab something like that up 1/8 aluminum shaped however you like with closed cell foam sheet. There is stuff for high temp applications. Use spray adhesive and they’re bonded for goodThe sheet metal? Probably not much, the material attached under it? Unknown while I still research idea.
I think it cuts down a considerable amount of top half and pump noise. Definitely hear turbo better nowCan anyone comment on how much this cuts down on unwanted noise?
