Do I feel a difference, no.

Do I notice a difference, yes.

It went in just about the time we switched to winter fuel and I added a Velossa Tech Big Mouth at the same time.
Ah, you also installed an intake snorkel. Does that just attach directly to the airbox in place of the factory one? I was noticing how the whole area around where the factory snorkel pokes up is sealed off except the front where the air comes in. I thought this would give great directed air to the snorkel.

K&N air filers provide more horsepower and better gas mileage with the added cost of more dirty oil going in your engines intake..

Not really a snorkel so much as a cold air snoot. There's no ram-air effect really, but it does draw ambient air, as opposed to the bubble of hot air from the radiator.

I mean, it's a turbo. What's a little ram air gonna do?

Cold air, on the other hand, is very bueno.

It's one of there..

And extra dirt, grit and sand.

And yet Ford supplies an equivalent as part of their tune. Hmmm?
They can do It. Mine is sitting on a shelf. First hand experience. Not for me.

It looks like there is a misconception in K&N filters and factory paper filters. K&N has a great FAQ section addressing many of the myths, such as better flow = less filtration.
DOES INCREASED AIRFLOW MEAN THAT MORE DIRT WILL GET THROUGH THE FILTER?
No. Most disposable filters are "barrier filters" which act as a physical barrier to dust particles. Once a dust particle covers a pore in the media, air can no longer flow through that space. K&NĀ® replacement air filters are designed to absorb dirt and dust particles instead of physically blocking them, allowing the pores in the material to continue flowing air.

You probably won't notice any difference. The computer will only allow so much air into the system anyway. High flow air filters won't effect most street vehicles much.
I put one in an older car, years ago, it ruined the Mass Air Flow.
WILL A K&NĀ® FILTER CAUSE MY VEHICLE'S MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR TO FAIL?
An unsubstantiated claim has circulated saying that K&NĀ® oiled air filters can cause mass airflow sensors to fail. K&N has thoroughly investigated this claim, and has found no evidence to suggest that K&N filter oil is able to cause MAF sensor damage. Over the past several years, K&N has compiled data regarding MAF sensors sent in by consumers and dealerships, which you can view here .

HOW EFFICIENT ARE K&NĀ® FILTERS AT TRAPPING CONTAMINANTS?
Laboratory tests utilizing ISO 5011 test protocols demonstrate that most K&NĀ® air filters achieve overall filtration efficiency in the range of 97% to 99%. (The ability of an air filter to protect an engine is generally measured in accordance with laboratory testing procedure ISO 5011.) K&NĀ® air filter designs are subjected to ISO 5011 testing involving coarse and fine test dust, and the test results are measured by a specific air filtration efficiency number. K&NĀ® filters are designed to provide exceptional airflow while simultaneously targeting an overall filtration efficiency that meets or exceeds OEM standards.

I had K&N in my previous Sport Trac that I had for 13 years and 212,000 miles. Never saw a difference in performance or mpg but I saved a little money over time by not buying new filters. I'd clean it once a year, clean the MAF maybe every other year, silicon (dirt) in my used oil analysis was always fine. In other words, no issues. People who have problems with the MAF, it's because they put too much oil on the filter.
1. There is zero performance gain except at high rpm.
2. The main benefit is that you can clean it and reuse it instead of buying new filters.
3. Yes I will probably buy one when the OE filter gets dirty.

Had one on a 5.0 mustang in Florida. LOTS of sand made it past the filter. Never again. Do what you want, believe what you want to believe. I’m fine with a Wix filter. Performance is fine. No K&N for me.
